presentation of the 1745 Electra Glide Standard FLHT 2020
from the Road King to the CVO, from the Limited to the Road Glide, Harley-Davidson's Touring range could not be more comprehensive.
Not enough, obviously, since MoCo is reintroducing the Electra Glide Standard, which has been missing for almost 10 years. A lady of the road, even baggier than the Street.
this Electra Glide Standard, with no Tour-Pak or frills, is a stripped-down version of the Street Glide, itself a stripped-down version of theElectra Limited. So stripped down that the Boom Box infotainment system has disappeared. In its place is a large storage compartment, ideal for a pack of cigarettes, a telephone and an invitation to a Rolling Stones concert.
One. Yes, this Electra is a single-seater. A jealous bitch, devoted to her driver when he enjoys the road with the minimum of an American tourer. The miles will fall prey to the wide Batwing fork head. An essential dose of luggage takes refuge in the hard cases. Sometimes that's enough; for some, it might be too much. Thus short-dressed, it lowers its price to become the most affordable of the Glide models, at almost the same price as the Road King.
that's all it takes for us to believe that the motorcycle is concentrating maximum attention on its engine. Now equipped with the big 1,746 cm3 Milwaukee Eight, the Standard gets a full taste of technology, with 8 valves to breathe, 2 spark plugs per cylinder, 15.3 mkg of heart-lifting torque, a delicateheart, a delicate 89 horsepower for the cavalcade and a lot of vibration filtered to the right measure; from a different time than its Twin Cam 96 memories.
a single price and a single color for the rebirth of the Electra Glide Standard. Vivid Black will allow certain parts to gleam in the light. Harley emphasizes those details highlighted by chrome, such as rocker covers, cylinder head covers and the clutch flap. Shunning the ostentatious, the machine does not desert the technical assets that the firm implants in large doses in its models. The chassis benefits from a 49 mm double-valve fork, Reflex combined brakes with ABS reinforcement and emulsion amortos. Over the course of a decade, it has lost its additional headlights and suitcase crash-bars, but gained an electronic road companion. Cruise control is present, freeing the hand for a moment to adjust the jacket or stash a hot dog over the ear.
but stripped down like this, the Electra Glide Standard steps on the Street Glide's toes. Only the presence or absence of a HiFi GPS system, a saddle and a few cosmetic elements differentiate it from the Street Glide. A strange duplicate in the range.

an Electra Glide Limited 2019 black usa price: $28,000 or 25,000 EURO
the same in France: 30000 EURO or 20% in France (maybe the famous US import tax?)
This Electra Glide Standard 2019 US price: $19,000 or 17,000 EURO
the same in France 25000 EURO or 47%. Look for the mistake.
If this bike were sold in France under the same conditions as the Electra Glide Limited, it would be priced at 20400EUROS (19000$->17000EUROS $ *1,2 = 20400EUROS). This would already be 1500EUROS more than the 2010 Electra Standard (18900EUROS), while in the meantime it has lost the passenger seat and footrest, and the suitcase protectors... Admittedly, it has gained the twincam 107.
But at 20400EUROS, the Electra Glide Standard would cannibalize all sales of the Street Glide (from 27110EURO), which must offer much better margins to HD dealers in France.
We'll see how many are sold in France… but at this price, I find it very poorly placed.
L\'Electra Glide Standard: if it's an opportunity for American bikers (who can customize it to their taste), one wonders if it's not a rip-off for French bikers? Rating : 1/5 Respond to ChrisB
