presentation of the NX 500 2024

Make no mistake about it: the Honda NX 500 is n'y more n'y less than the well-known CB 500 X! It could have followed the same pattern of evolution, with the addition here and there of small modifications that would have done it a world of good, but nay. The little CB 500 X has become the NX 500. Two letters that in no way change its destination: the NX 500 remains true to itself, being a favorite machine for newcomers to motorcycling, and for those aiming for a reasonable, pragmatic purchase.

the two letters refer to a reminiscence of the brand's glorious past: the Honda NX 650. It had its moment of glory in 1988, with two pots under the seat, an RVFC cylinder head and a trail bike look. Perfectly in tune with the barbarian name we once knew: the Dominator ! Last but not least, the NX 125 Transcity and NX 250 are solid, sturdy machines.

Honda NX 500 2024 - 1Honda NX 500 2024 - 1

A quick flashback to the CB 500 X: launched in 2013, at the same time as the sporty CBR 500 R and the CB 500 F roadster, the CB500X trail bike brought a breath of adventure... or even SUV. In 2016, the CB 500 X evolved for the first time, benefiting from a larger fuel tank and better protection thanks to a higher bubble. In 2019, it saw a deeper styling evolution with more engine performance and a small list of modifications to the chassis. Finally, in 2022, the CB 500 X offers a ø 41 mm Showa SFF-BP fork and a lightened swingarm, a double front disc and a redesigned front rim.

Abracadabra, here comes the new NX500. The two letters stand for "New X-over", in keeping with the customary modern language. The entire front end has been redesigned in a more rally-raid, streamlined style. The facelift is significant enough to give the impression of a new motorcycle. A very straight face and shoulders unequivocally evoke adventure at the end of the muzzle, while everything else comes from the CB 500 X of yesterday. The mechanical base remains the same: a 471 cm3 twin-cylinder engine delivering maximum power of 35 kW (47.5 hp) at 8,600 rpm and torque of 43 Nm (4.38 mkg) at 6,500 rpm. This makes it A2-compatible. With its reasonable power output, the NX 500 offers few driving aids other than the famous HSTC torque control, which comes as standard. This compares the speed difference between the front and rear wheels to detect any loss of grip. There's also a slipper clutch for easier gear changes.

Honda NX 500 Côte nouveauté, this new machine loses 3 kg on the scales, for a total running weight of 196 kg. A large part of this reduction comes from the all-new aluminum alloy wheels, with a 7-spoke to 5-spoke design, reducing unsprung weight by 800g at the front and 700g at the rear. The NX 500 retains its dual 296 mm-diameter front discs, topped by 2-piston calipers, and its single 240 mm rear disc clamped by a single-piston caliper

The seat height remains unchanged at 830 mm, but the narrow seat makes it easier to place your feet on the ground. The fuel tank retains its 17.5-liter capacity, ensuring a comfortable grip. Comfort-wise, it now features a 5-inch TFT display, borrowed from the XL 750 Transalp, and a new LED headlight optic. The backlit left-hand instrument panel features three instrumentation modes: bar, circular or simple. Connected via Bluetooth and a smartphone app, the instrument cluster lets you make phone calls or listen to music.

Finally, the NX 500 comes with a number of option packs: Adventure, Travel, Urban and Comfort.

- Adventure Pack
Mounted on a black tubular guard that protects the machine, two fog lamps enhance visibility. Hand guards keep debris out and limit the effects of cold, while a tinted windscreen and rim decals add to the style. A fuel tank protector is also included.

- Travel Pack
A set of semi-rigid 16.5-liter side panniers with quick-release fasteners and rack is combined with a 22-liter saddlebag.

- Urban Pack
A 38 l top-case with backrest and inner bag. A center stand, always appreciated for maintenance, completes the package.

- Comfort Pack
A pair of heated handgrips whose power (5 levels) is memorized and displayed on the TFT screen. Additional deflectors keep airflow away from the lower body, and a 12V socket under the seat provides a welcome charging point, while a 3-liter tank bag with transparent pocket and rain cover provides easy access to useful items.

NX 2026
French Generique Model 2026
I own the 2024 version. The 2026 version offers, but does not impose, e-cluch for 500€ more than the basic version. I've never tested this system, and I don't think I need it. I would have liked to see the NX evolve in terms of equipment (center stand, outside temperature, engine, remaining range in km and fuel, standard package holder, avoiding the need to remove the original passenger handles, tinted bubble, heated handles). In short, for €500, you could sell two machines at equivalent prices, but without the same equipment. Otherwise, the NX is an excellent machine. Rating : 5/5
The perfect A2 motorcycle
French Model 2024
Honestly, after having driven it for over 10,000 km. I don't regret my purchase at all, the NX500 doesn't consume much fuel, it's aesthetically very pleasing to look at, the sensations are there (it's not a racing car either) but it does the job and on top of that it's very reassuring. The ideal bike for any reasonable biker. Rating : 5/5

French Model 2024
4000 kilometers on it and every ride is a pleasure. Voluntary and economical engine Very comfortable position, the kilometers go by without pain. Very good quality of materials, and perfect after-sales service (small problem with a seat clamp that had come loose, honda replaced the entire tank!) For the price and performance, I can't see any competition at the moment. I must specify that motorcycles with Dantesque cavallerie are of absolutely no interest to me Rating : 5/5
Redeemable?

Hello on this kind of models and many others it would be cool to say if it is Rabaissable for people 1.57m for example. Even if it lacks power, it looks nice. Rating : 1/5

Hi, Yes, the kit can be lowered by 2.5 cm on several sites, including nx500 shop 110 euros Rating : 5/5
It's a shame the wheels aren't spoked, and it doesn't really look like a trail bike, more like a roadster. As a result, I'll probably go to the competition. Rating : 3/5

i've been a motorcyclist for 11 years, and I've ridden several bikes, 4-cylinder and 2-cylinder, each with a fair amount of power. At first, I was a bit apprehensive about the 47.5 hp of this "school" bike, so I went for a test ride. My impressions: ultra-comfortable (I'm 1.81 m tall), I feel good on the handlebars, and the position on the bike makes it possible to plan HOURS of riding.81m), I feel good on it, and the position on the bike allows me to envisage HOURS of riding. I can't believe the bike weighs 198 kilos, it's so well distributed that I felt like I had 130 kilos to manoeuvre. The "little" engine is very willing and energetic. Sure, it's not a sports car, but frankly, it was a real joy to drive. It's not a calf, far from it. Very sound handling, very good braking... In short, I ordered it after the test drive. I encourage you to go and try it out, it's a real winner! Rating : 4/5

This will surely be my first motorcycle after obtaining my A2 It looks great in every way I hope to be able to take it for a test ride if possible Cordially Rating : 4/5

I recently acquired the Honda NX 500. I used to ride a Hornet 750, but I parted company with it after it scared the hell out of me and broke my back on the "Dantesque" roads of the Lot (it's all broken!) The NX, in the words of one tester, is a good little horse, easy to handle and docile; the engine is great, smooth and torquey. One criticism? I find the rear suspension a bit harsh, although much less so than the Hornet, but I'd have liked a bit more softness and travel. I'll check with Fournales if I need to change the Pro Link. By the way, I'm 76 and that explains it ........ Rating : 4/5
I've had this bike since last March and have covered 10,000km since then. After a few modifications such as a larger windscreen, frosted handguards (stronger than Honda models), a center stand, additional headlights on crash bars, a Givi top case, and a double 12v socket, it suits my riding style perfectly (60 km a day on urban freeways with lots of interchanges). It's super-safe (impeccable stability) and lively to handle, even if it's not a thunderbolt to ride (native A2!)) Top-notch speedometers (in sunlight or at night, and great for light changes in tunnels) Good range Nice design, despite a rear wheelbase that's visually too short (not very attractive) Only downsides: the horn is not intuitive to find (Honda!), the same goes for resetting the km counter to 0, the quality of the bolts and nuts is passable and, above all, the drive chain reaches the end of its adjustment range after 8000km (Chinese consumables at Honda?), forcing a premature change of the chain kit. This would be a perfect bike for me with a 650 cm3 to get decent torque (no need for the 92hp of a Transalp, just more dynamic acceleration) Rating : 4/5

500 nx . An excellent small-displacement bike for country roads and, above all, solo riding in the mountains. A very pleasant single-cylinder sound with the added bonus of torque! i love it. I'm also averse to the much-copied corner spout, whose usefulness I've never understood, so physically I find it more successful in terms of looks. The windshield would benefit from being higher. It's a twin-cylinder, not a single-cylinder Rating : 5/5
I bought this model, my 25th motorcycle since 1977. Everything was fine, until I realized that the magnificent TFT screen, packed with information and gadgets, did not display the engine temperature (cooling fluid) like all the other models on the market. I contacted Honda France who replied in the following terms: "However, as your HONDA NX500 complies with the standards defined for this model, we regret that we cannot intervene on this point.
To find out the temperature for a moment, you need to stop and go to the maintenance parameters and look at the temperature, then go back to the program, but you'll never get the temperature displayed as on all other motorcycles. The CB 500 Hornet has the same screen! Oh yes, I forgot, the manual specifies that an alarm is displayed when the engine temperature is too hot to call for assistance! I hope Honda will remedy this problem, because this bike is really good. I'm an old hand now, but I like to see this information when it's cold or hot, which I find indispensable.

CB500X
French Model 2024
Well said (or rather written) at the head of the article: reasonable and pragmatic purchase. Me, 77 years old, licence A since 1977, many motorcycles, most recently the Yamaha T700. I went back to a CB500X 1 year ago. Nothing better; no show-offs, no misplaced pride, just pleasure and a good price/quality ratio. I leave the NX500 to those who love new things. I'm absolutely satisfied with the bike I owned with the 2016 model. Rating : 3/5
French Model 2024
I think it looks pretty good compared to the old one (which I tried). After all, this engine, which has an excellent reputation for reliability, isn't a thunderbolt; you've got to work hard to get it going...
Personally, I'd prefer the Transalp, but it's more expensive, of course.
