presentation of the NX 500 2024
Make no mistake about it: the Honda NX 500 is n'y more n'y less than the well-known CB 500 X! It could have followed the same pattern of evolution, with the addition here and there of small modifications that would have done it a world of good, but nay. The little CB 500 X has become the NX 500. Two letters that in no way change its destination: the NX 500 remains true to itself, being a favorite machine for newcomers to motorcycling, and for those aiming for a reasonable, pragmatic purchase.
the two letters refer to a reminiscence of the brand's glorious past: the Honda NX 650. It had its moment of glory in 1988, with two pots under the seat, an RVFC cylinder head and a trail bike look. Perfectly in tune with the barbarian name we once knew: the Dominator ! Last but not least, the NX 125 Transcity and NX 250 are solid, sturdy machines.
A quick flashback to the CB 500 X: launched in 2013, at the same time as the sporty CBR 500 R and the CB 500 F roadster, the CB500X trail bike brought a breath of adventure... or even SUV. In 2016, the CB 500 X evolved for the first time, benefiting from a larger fuel tank and better protection thanks to a higher bubble. In 2019, it saw a deeper styling evolution with more engine performance and a small list of modifications to the chassis. Finally, in 2022, the CB 500 X offers a ø 41 mm Showa SFF-BP fork and a lightened swingarm, a double front disc and a redesigned front rim.
Abracadabra, here comes the new NX500. The two letters stand for "New X-over", in keeping with the customary modern language. The entire front end has been redesigned in a more rally-raid, streamlined style. The facelift is significant enough to give the impression of a new motorcycle. A very straight face and shoulders unequivocally evoke adventure at the end of the muzzle, while everything else comes from the CB 500 X of yesterday. The mechanical base remains the same: a 471 cm3 twin-cylinder engine delivering maximum power of 35 kW (47.5 hp) at 8,600 rpm and torque of 43 Nm (4.38 mkg) at 6,500 rpm. This makes it A2-compatible. With its reasonable power output, the NX 500 offers few driving aids other than the famous HSTC torque control, which comes as standard. This compares the speed difference between the front and rear wheels to detect any loss of grip. There's also a slipper clutch for easier gear changes.

The seat height remains unchanged at 830 mm, but the narrow seat makes it easier to place your feet on the ground. The fuel tank retains its 17.5-liter capacity, ensuring a comfortable grip. Comfort-wise, it now features a 5-inch TFT display, borrowed from the XL 750 Transalp, and a new LED headlight optic. The backlit left-hand instrument panel features three instrumentation modes: bar, circular or simple. Connected via Bluetooth and a smartphone app, the instrument cluster lets you make phone calls or listen to music.
Finally, the NX 500 comes with a number of option packs: Adventure, Travel, Urban and Comfort.
- Adventure Pack
Mounted on a black tubular guard that protects the machine, two fog lamps enhance visibility. Hand guards keep debris out and limit the effects of cold, while a tinted windscreen and rim decals add to the style. A fuel tank protector is also included.
- Travel Pack
A set of semi-rigid 16.5-liter side panniers with quick-release fasteners and rack is combined with a 22-liter saddlebag.
- Urban Pack
A 38 l top-case with backrest and inner bag. A center stand, always appreciated for maintenance, completes the package.
- Comfort Pack
A pair of heated handgrips whose power (5 levels) is memorized and displayed on the TFT screen. Additional deflectors keep airflow away from the lower body, and a 12V socket under the seat provides a welcome charging point, while a 3-liter tank bag with transparent pocket and rain cover provides easy access to useful items.

Bikers' reviews Leave a review - 16 reviews
To find out the temperature for a moment, you need to stop and go to the maintenance parameters and look at the temperature, then go back to the program, but you'll never get the temperature displayed as on all other motorcycles. The CB 500 Hornet has the same screen! Oh yes, I forgot, the manual specifies that an alarm is displayed when the engine temperature is too hot to call for assistance! I hope Honda will remedy this problem, because this bike is really good. I'm an old hand now, but I like to see this information when it's cold or hot, which I find indispensable. Personally, I'd prefer the Transalp, but it's more expensive, of course. Rating : 5/5 Respond to Alain81
