presentation of the Monkey 125 2018
Throw away the stopwatches, the turns, the raids, the trips and the considerations of a handlebar. And let it rock you into a corner of the zygomatic. A place where an iconic Honda model makes its comeback. The Monkey. A minibike archetype in the same league as the Dax, with the dimensions of a flea, the look of a toy and the desire for good-natured fun.
Rejuvenated and modernized, the Monkey is as sparkling as ever. The kind of thing you'd come across in a Spirou or Gaston Lagaffe album, and want to take out of the plates to have a laugh with him in the evening. A laugh? No, a toy as close to a serious Honda as to a youthful delirium. With its pocket size, big wheels, tiny fuel tank, saddle as thick as a school bag, high handlebars and horizontally tilted engine, the Monkey oozes fun.
With it, the city becomes a playground. And when it comes to class, the little Honda doesn't need to take a lesson from anyone. The color scheme is brilliant: frame, fork, tank, shock absorber springs and headlight support plates all match. Chromed parts can be found everywhere,
As for the engine, it's all in the spirit of the Monkey. Simple, not violent... we're not looking for power or speed; we just want to linger here, twirl there. Its 124.9 cm3 single-cylinder engine produces just over 9 horsepower (6.9 kW at 7000 rpm). The technology is of an almost forgotten era, with air cooling, 1 ACT, 2 valves and 4-speed gearbox.
But if the mill is only modest, on the other hand, the new-generation Monkey has taken on board some very up-to-date technical solutions. I'm not talking about disc brakes or fuel injection. No, let's turn our attention to the small, round, digital speedometer. Or the LED lighting, both front and rear, and for the indicators. Or the ABS module, backed up by an IMU inertial unit.
A little detail that can come in very handy: the car-style key lets you turn on the lights remotely to find your wheel - not bad when there are hundreds of bikes at a gathering.
With the 125 Monkey, it's the entrance to an amusement park, the machine that accompanies you to the barbecue, a bee in the paddock, the bike you hang behind your camper van to use morning and night on vacation. But no matter how cute it may be, the Monkey is still a crazy machine, not unlike a toy for adults. It's out of the question to consider anything other than the city or vacations. By the way, who can tell us why it's called Monkey???

Bikers' reviews Leave a review - 19 reviews
When I got back, I found one on ke net, picked it up 140 km from home (yellow, 2020 kms on the odometer) and since then, in just nine days, I've already covered 850kms
It's much more than a toy, and to parody, it's a way of life. Rating : 5/5 Respond to JeffSennac
This has nothing to do with the bike's qualities or defects
It's an excellent little bike, lively and economical
The only drawback is its limited top speed, which means it won't be at its best on linear/rapid routes
On the other hand, secondary roads are a pure delight
Mine has 8500Km. Rating : 5/5 Participate in the conversation

the only complaint is the rear suspension, which comes to a stop
when going over speed bumps, which is a violent blow to the back
the springs should be firmer, or else weigh only around sixty kilos
The sound of the engine is gratifying and sounds good. I'm 1.85m tall and I find my place easily. To handle, it's a real bike. Above 90km/h, be careful with the small wheels, as it becomes very responsive
I'd recommend it for urban use and small roads, and its fuel consumption is absolutely derisory at around 1.5 liters per hundred
Taking the plunge gives you a real "banana"! Rating : 4/5 Respond to Porsche 993
small garage, small house in the forest, small motorcycle, long distances,
great freedom, lots of HAPPINESS!

In short, a little clock...
Really worth the financial sacrifice
For a product of this quality, I think the price is just right

Since I got my Monkey in banana yellow, I've been having the time of my life in Paris. A real urban serpentine! Top and what a peach of an engine! Rating : 4/5 Respond to Mamour Mamour
The finish, the quality of the parts and the driving comfort are brilliant.
Mind you, this may give some ideas to others who are hesitating about the price.
I took the presentation model from my Honda dealer, which was 400 euros less, just because people put their butts on it, and it had 1 km on the odometer at the time of delivery. âœŒï¸ Rating : 4/5 Respond to Tchaca
i don't regret my choice on the trails or roads, it's at home everywhere, comfortable, smooth and powerful enough Rating : 5/5 Respond to Alain
It's a steal at that price!
my estimate is no more than 2800 â'¬
put yourself in the shoes of those with limited means!
after all, it's just a little bike! a little toy!
for 8O kmh it's way too expensive! Rating : 3/5 Respond to France !
It's the manufacturer who sets the prices.
Kisses all the same Rating : 5/5 Participate in the conversation
Two more arguments to convince me
1- Can the handlebars be folded down or, at the very least, quickly dismantled to load the Monkey into an estate car?
2- Is the claimed fuel consumption of 1.5L/100 realistic?
The Dax consumes around 3.5L/100, which is a big advantage over a car for short daily trips
Sincerely Rating : 5/5 Respond to Steph
I've had the Monkey for 2 months and have just covered 500 KM.
Yes, it's not cheap, but the build quality is there! Vibrations are contained, handling is top-notch... I was even pleasantly surprised to learn that there was an alarm on delivery. As Genetfou says, the headlights/Led lights are really great!
I don't regret my purchase at all! Rating : 5/5 Participate in the conversation
After trying a friend's, you quickly understand that you're on a quality machine, this is Honda… ABS, Led lights, alarm, injection are the type of improvements that drive up the bill, but still this machine is super endearing, and you get a lot of pleasure from riding it, so now for me, sure it's not cheap, but it's the price of retro looks combined with modern technology!
For me, the order is placed, and it just arrived this morning… Rating : 5/5 Respond to Genetfou
