presentation of the CBR 500 R 2020

Everything can be learned and discovered. The school of sport has many faces; at Honda, it's the CBR 500 R that opens the door. Discovery or initiation? A multi-level sketch. The first of these will quickly win you over, with its supersport-sharp lines. But what's in store for this half-mile once the ignition is switched on?

reason, under a CBR visa. These sulphurous letters will soon have A2 license holders on their toes. After all, that's who it's aimed at, with a twin-cylinder as powerful as propriety allows. Fiery? No. Placidity? No, no more. The answer! The CBR's 47.5hp at 8,600rpm is the answer to the cravings for sensible power found at the start of the repu. Since its predecessor, the maximum power output remains unchanged. But Honda has worked on the twin's strength, so that it delivers more (4%) between 3,000 and 7,000 rpm. To achieve this, the bulk of the work was focused on a new timing system and improved air intake.
Asking for more gniak at the top of the rev counter will only be justified on Cub chases. Jovial moments when the shiftlight really comes into its own. It is adjustable from 5,000 to 8,570 rpm in 250 rpm steps. The manufacturer has also incorporated an engaged gear indicator, while the clutch shows signs of complacency with an assisted slip system. The exhaust system has also been revised to give a more exhilarating sound.

Honda CBR 500 R 2020the lines of theex-CBR 500 were already sharp. The transition to this opus is not as transcendent as on other generations. That doesn't prevent us from appreciating its stylistic evolution towards imminences with the previous-generation CBR 1000 RR. The engine cowling has grown in length, the eyes have become more threatening, and the turn signals have LEDs. The riding position has taken a step closer to the spirit of the bike. Like the CBR 650 R, which aims to be sportier than its predecessor, the F, this little sister compares the rider to a more comfortable riding position: the handlebars, now fixed under the fork crown, tilt the position forward by 8°. Not quite radical yet, but just enough to give the rider a more pronounced feel and a better grip on the front end.
The front end remains unchanged. A standard 41 mm fork holds a 320 mm brake disc clamped by a double-piston caliper. Same tubular steel frame, same pneumatic tires, unchanged wheelbase, seat height slightly reduced by 5 mm... The shock absorber is claimed to be more efficient, while the weight has been reduced by 2 kilos and the instrument panel has been redesigned. The blue-background instrumentation is less bland than the old one. It looks familiar... perhaps you've already seen it on the CB 500 X and F, or the CB 650 R and CBR 650 R!?! The family shares it happily.

you've just got your license... well done. Now, what to choose, because the range has widened. Today, you can enjoy an overview of the sport on a Kawasaki Ninja 400, KTM RC 390, Benelli Tornado 302 or Yamaha R3. If the winged crest attracts you and you praise Honda's facility, the CBR 500 R will take a fine place in this list.

Manufacturer recall in the following countries: Denmark, Finland, France, Ireland, Portugal, Romania, Sweden, Slovakia, Poland, Croatia, Greece, Estonia, Bulgaria, Luxembour, Slovenia.

In the ABS modulator (anti-lock braking system), an excessive amount of grease has been applied to the O-ring of the reservoir piston due to poor management of the grease application equipment on the components. When used continuously under these conditions, foreign bodies adhere to the grease that has moved to the outlet valve and can get caught in the check valve during braking, causing inlet pressure leakage and increasing braking distance.

French Galyss Model 2019
Background: I've owned my 2019 cbr500r for a year now, and I've been riding it almost every day since. I seem to have spent ~7000km on it, on trips of all lengths, from a simple commute to work, to a long all-day ride. Getting used to it: I started out on a Mt07, with which I did about ten hours, but having changed car schools in the middle of the ride, I switched to a cb500f. So when I got my cbr, I was already used to the honda engine. However, the riding position changes radically, while remaining pleasant and surprisingly comfortable. The bike is very forgiving, thanks to a fairly smooth engine and a braking system that's perfect for this kind of little machine. It's impressively easy to ride, and you get used to it very quickly! Comfort: As mentioned above, the riding position is admittedly more radical than the roadster version, but the half handlebars positioned above the tee mean you don't have to crush your wrists too much, and the final position is fairly neutral. The seat is very comfortable for a bike at this price, and allows long rides without abnormal pain. Performance: The chassis of the 2019 version is certainly less sharp than the more recent version, but allows you to have fun while staying safe. The bike is easy to place on the corner and the engine, which reveals its potential above 6,000 rpm, makes for fun, dynamic corner exits. Electronics: From a safety point of view, the abs works very well and still allows you to brake hard without it triggering unnecessarily. There's no traction control or anti-wheeling, but let's be honest, before you skate with it or accidentally lift it, you've got a LOT of leeway. The dashboard is very pleasant, with an LCD panel that's clearly visible in bright sunlight, and a pleasant contrast. There are various trip meters to keep track of fuel consumption and driving time. Day-to-day: with a combined fuel consumption of around 3.4L/100km in dynamic driving, and a range of 500km (proven on numerous occasions), this is a really pleasant machine for everyday use. Also, even at 30°C, the bike doesn't heat up too much, so there's no sauna effect at every traffic light. Maintenance: Having recently done my 24,000km maintenance, I can attest that it's not very demanding in terms of costs. Also, the swingarm allows the use of a workshop stand with pads, and greasing the chain is effortless. Negatives: As you can see, I love this bike, but there are a few things that could be improved, some of which have been changed in more recent versions, such as the fork or the single front brake disc.
Under the seat are all the electronics for the plate holder (indicators and plate light). The insulation of this part should be improved. Indeed, although I'm not a fan of washing with a Karcher, I sometimes give in to temptation and water gets into the seat cover through certain holes underneath it. So far I haven't had any problems with the electronics, but it's true that it can be surprising to open the seat cover and see that everything's flooded (even though I've barely gone over it with the Karcher).
Also, the bike's bolts and nuts are made of butter. I was a car mechanic for a while, so I think I know how to unscrew and screw these things. In conclusion, this is a bike I'd recommend to anyone looking for a very versatile motorcycle for beginners, that doesn't consume too much fuel, that you can have fun with, and that won't give up before 300,000km. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask them below, and I'll try to answer them! Ride safe!

Just sublime! I've never regretted my purchase.

I went from a 600 Hornet injection to this one... Why, you may ask? Because it consumes much less fuel and costs much less in insurance... And yet, it's much more enjoyable on the road than my old roadster.

Tested over a long distance (Bastia - Ajaccio in 1h30 instead of 2h by car), it even kicks in at low revs. (846km on the odometer)

The original tires are Dunlop D222s (called Roadsmart II in Europe), which hold the road well, and are very good in the rain, but avoid leaning too much, as I slid off the back twice. I'd switch to Dunlop Sportmax MK3s.

As for the suspensions, personally, living in Corsica with the small roads we have here, I had to harden the fork, as well as the rear shock absorber.

The LCD display is really nice, with lots of choices, you can even change Km/h to Mp/h, find out your average fuel consumption on the Trip of your bike, Trip A and Trip B, and you also have a stopwatch for each Trip, not to mention the gear index.

In short, I was right to listen to my heart's desire.

If I can give one piece of advice to young people who want to start riding sportbikes, this is a great bike to start with.

If I've switched to a less powerful bike, it's a personal choice, but also because I've learned that having power and top speed doesn't mean you're a seasoned rider.

In the corners, a very good rider can easily overtake you with a CB300R, while you have a CB1000R in your hands... And yes, it's happened! Lol xD.

So choose your bike according to your convictions, not those of others ;)

Bonne route à tous !

Throughout the World Super Sport 300 (WSSP300) season, we'll be seeing how this machine, the only Honda CBR 500 R (prepared at Ten Kate), fares against its rivals. It will be entered by Team TGP and ridden by my grandson Adrien, runner-up in the 2018 CBR Cup (organized by TrajectoireGP). Rating : 5/5
