presentation of the CBR 500 R 2021
From one year to the next, yesterday or today, the CBR 500 R looks identical to the previous vintage. Even the technical data have not changed. And yet, like the rest of the CB mid-size family, this sporty machine has become even more environmentally friendly and cleaner. It is now Euro5 approved. An obligatory upgrade if you want to continue to win over young A2-badged sports enthusiasts.
Everything can be learned and discovered. The school of sport has many faces; at Honda, it's the CBR 500 R that opens the door. Discovery or initiation? A multi-level sketch. The first of these will quickly win you over, with its supersport-sharp lines. But what's in store for this half-mile once the ignition is switched on?
Reason, under a CBR visa. These sulphurous letters will soon have A2 license holders on their toes. After all, that's who it's aimed at, with a twin-cylinder as powerful as propriety allows. Fiery? No. Placidity? No, no more. The answer! The CBR's 47.5hp at 8,600rpm is the answer to the cravings of the early stages of the repu. Since its predecessor, the maximum power output remains unchanged. But Honda has worked on the twin's strength, so that it delivers more (4%) between 3,000 and 7,000 rpm. To achieve this, the bulk of the work was focused on a new timing system and improved air intake.
Asking for more gniak at the top of the rev counter will only be justified on Cub chases. Jovial moments when the shiftlight really comes into its own. It is adjustable from 5,000 to 8,570 rpm in 250 rpm steps. The manufacturer has also incorporated an engaged gear indicator, while the clutch shows signs of complacency with an assisted slip system. The exhaust system has also been revised to give a more exhilarating sound.

The front end remains unchanged. A standard 41 mm fork holds a 320 mm brake disc clamped by a double-piston caliper. Same tubular steel frame, same pneumatic tires, same wheelbase, seat height slightly reduced by 5 mm... The shock absorber is claimed to be more efficient, while the weight has been reduced by 2 kilos and the instrument panel has been redesigned. The blue-background instrumentation is less bland than the old one. It looks familiar... perhaps you've already seen it on the CB 500 X and F, or the CB 650 R and CBR 650 R!?! The family shares it happily.
You've just got your license... well done. Now, what to choose, because the range has widened. Today, you can enjoy an overview of the sport on a Kawasaki Ninja 400, KTM RC 390, Benelli Tornado 302 or Yamaha R3. If the winged crest attracts you and you praise Honda's facility, the CBR 500 R will take a fine place in this list.

Under the seat are all the electronics for the plate holder (indicators and plate light). The insulation of this part should be improved. Indeed, although I'm not a fan of washing with a Karcher, I sometimes give in to temptation and water gets into the seat cover through certain holes underneath it. So far I haven't had any problems with the electronics, but it's true that it can be surprising to open the seat cover and see that everything's flooded (even though I've barely gone over it with the Karcher).
Also, the bike's bolts and nuts are made of butter. I was a car mechanic for a while, so I think I know how to unscrew and screw these things. In conclusion, this is a bike I'd recommend to anyone looking for a very versatile motorcycle for beginners, that doesn't consume too much fuel, that you can have fun with, and that won't give up before 300,000km. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask them below, and I'll try to answer them! Ride safe! Rating : 5/5 Respond to Galyss
I went from a 600 Hornet injection to this one... Why, you may ask? Because it consumes much less fuel and costs much less in insurance... And yet, it's much more enjoyable on the road than my old roadster.
Tested over a long distance (Bastia - Ajaccio in 1h30 instead of 2h by car), it even kicks in at low revs. (846km on the odometer)
The original tires are Dunlop D222s (called Roadsmart II in Europe), which hold the road well, and are very good in the rain, but avoid leaning too much, as I slid off the back twice. I'd switch to Dunlop Sportmax MK3s.
As for the suspensions, personally, living in Corsica with the small roads we have here, I had to harden the fork, as well as the rear shock absorber.
The LCD display is really nice, with lots of choices, you can even change Km/h to Mp/h, find out your average fuel consumption on the Trip of your bike, Trip A and Trip B, and you also have a stopwatch for each Trip, not to mention the gear index.
In short, I was right to listen to my heart's desire.
If I can give one piece of advice to young people who want to start riding sportbikes, this is a great bike to start with.
If I've switched to a less powerful bike, it's a personal choice, but also because I've learned that having power and top speed doesn't mean you're a seasoned rider.
In the corners, a very good rider can easily overtake you with a CB300R, while you have a CB1000R in your hands... And yes, it's happened! Lol xD.
So choose your bike according to your convictions, not those of others ;)
