presentation of the FTR 1200 Carbon 2020
The FTR 1200 already has a top-of-the-range version, the S. But that doesn't seem to be enough for Indian. The manufacturer already applies a premium policy with its models equipped with the big Thunderstroke engine. The FTR needs to move up a level, and it does so with this Carbon version.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out how this roadster-tracker is going to be equipped. But let's give in to the obvious. Carbon, carbon, and a little carbon. Indian uses it to recreate the headlight nacelle, front mudguard, airbox, fuel tank trim and a seat cover. An illustrative plaque in the middle of the tank marks this FTR's pedigree.
One of the main advantages of carbon fiber is its low weight. Since this FTR has it everywhere, it should logically weigh less than.... Oops no. Someone explain. At 235 kilos fully loaded, the Carbon is 4 kilos heavier than the S. Anyway *
Let's take a look at how this bike expresses itself. Its big twin produces 123 horsepower, exalted by a more muscular voice. The FTR 1200 Carbon is equipped with dual Akrapovic tailpipes. Against all expectations, they're made of... titanium. A twist on the name, but a material of equal quality.

Suspension is adjustable throughout, anchored around a tubular steel trellis frame. A dose of Brembo brakes and full LED lighting complete the package.
The FTR 1200 Carbon aims to get closer to the FTR 750 racing bike. Let's think of it more as the most precious version in the family. It costs 2,000 euros more than the S, but 700 euros more than the Race Replica, from which it is largely derived (same color scheme, same exhaust). One small regret is that a set of Öhlins suspensions would have been a welcome addition to this machine. Maybe later; maybe another...
