presentation of the FTR 1200 R Carbon 2023
The FTR 1200 R Carbon is the fusion of yesterday's S Race Replica and Carbon. Indian really hits the high-end with this bike, highlighted by multiple elements. It's not surprising that the design team drew inspiration from the Ducati S.
At Springfield, we wanted to make a strong, precious statement, and we're showing it.
It ' s the one with the best ground contact. The FTR 1200 is fitted with Öhlins suspension. A 43 mm upside-down fork and a shock absorber with excellent accessibility. All settings are available, as you'd expect from the wildest Indian. Travel is 120 mm front and rear, compared with 150 mm on the front models.
In addition to its Swedish suspension, the R Carbon benefits from the family's latest improvements, with a tighter caster angle, 17-inch wheels and the appearance of Metzeler Sportec tires. Already, you can feel that the machine is no longer in the same dynamic as the first generation. 2023 is more efficient, with firmer braking and a more powerful clutch.
öhlins always make an impression. Which would correspond to the letter R in this model's name. As it's supplemented by the word Carbon, we're expecting a fine selection of parts made from this material. For quality and weight savings, the bike comes with a carbon headlamp nacelle, tank side panels and front mudguard. No, not yet. The dual exhaust may be new (2023), but we'd have liked something to match the name.
Does all this save weight? Not at all; the FTR R Carbon is even claimed to be 2 kilos heavier than the standard model, but 2 less than the Sport.
The distinction continues with a more elaborate seat featuring white stitching, a sporty tank console and a more muscular price tag. It costs 4,500 euros more than the basic FTR.

The electronics that follow this block are representative of the manufacturer's modernity: 3 riding modes, IMU inertial unit, traction control, cornering ABS, stability control and anti-wheeling. On board, you'll appreciate the USB socket for recharging your MP3 player (or other gadgets), cruise control and the Ride Command system on a new 10 cm color TFT touchscreen, Bluetooth, phone pairing, etc..
With the FTR 1200 R Carbon, Indian shows its sporting and premium appetite. With this bike, Indian is cultivating its image as both a top-of-the-range motorcycle and a player in new markets. Is it a streetfighter? Not quite, not yet.... It's an offensive, more like a lion than a cheetah.
