presentation of the Z 1000 2010
remember the 1st version of the Z 1000? Click here to take another look. Why should I? For 2 reasons. First, to remember that it was this roadster that put Kawa back on the map - a pure manga-style machine that turned heads.
Secondly, because compared to this 3rd generation, the 2003 model looks like a child at heart. It's simply mind-boggling just how aggressive and stocky Akashi's flagship roadster has become, pushing the limits of menace.
kawasaki succeeds in slapping us in the face with every new evolution of the Z 1000. Except this time, the development of this big street-fighter is not the result of an evolution, but a completely new model. With "total design freedom", the engineers were able to let loose in all directions. Look at this thing! It's sharp from end to end, with fangs in all directions and wrestler's shoulders. The headstock is still inspired by the 1st model... with lots of testosterone and a healthy dose of mutagen. A small detail tells us a lot about the care taken with this new Z 1000 - Take a close look at the swingarm, the end, there it is: an eccentric chain adjuster - How long has it been since we've seen such a feature on a Japanese bike? Quite simply, class.
you'll immediately recognize the Kawa signature in the front end: petal discs, radial brake calipers and a beautiful inverted fork, So, I'm going to draw your attention to the heart of the machine, I'll tell you about its 1043 cm3 engine later because.... Stop top top. 1043 cm3 ???? Yes, a bigger block. Has the ZX-9R's old 4-cylinder been overhauled again? Is it a derivative of the ZX-10R 's mill? Is it a brand-new boiler? One thing's for sure: power and torque figures are up. 138 bhp, or 13 more, and almost 12 mkg. That's 10% more potato and 20% more muscle - some inflations are worth taking. And an extra 90 cm3 will keep the pistons talking. This all-new engine has a slightly smaller bore than the 2009 Z 1000, and a 5.1 mm longer stroke. This promises a much fuller mill at mid-range.
But first, I'd like to talk about the frame. Although strengthened, the Z 1000 's previous frame was lagging behind the tough competition in the segment. It was time, indeed urgent, to remedy this. The technical aspects have yet to be revealed, but the photos reveal an all-new die-cast aluminum frame, with a structure anchored to the cylinder block and passing over the cylinder head. It's a safe bet (bingo) that this new frame is closely derived from that of the hypersport ZX-10R. Its design and the materials used have stiffened it by 30%, while making it 3 to 4 kg lighter. Add to this a 10-kilogram reduction in all-up weight and a refocusing of the masses... All of which should reconcile the Z 1000 with sport riding enthusiasts.

with its patient appearance, it's hard to believe that the Z 1000 retains the original features that made it famous: a sharp, tuned design, painted rims with polished edges, 2 twin tailpipes (although the mufflers have changed radically) and a character all its own.
As for its dynamism, Kawa admits it's not looking for maximum power or blistering speed (there's the 200hp ZX-10 R for that). The Z 1000 is a street-fighter, and as such, it lives up to its prerogatives: to be eye-catching (check out the imitation snakeskin seat on the Metallic Brown color) and to offer maximum riding pleasure. The Ducati 1098 Streetfighter, Yamaha FZ1 and other Triumph Speed Triples need look no further.

there's a real engine for enthusiasts, even with the 106hp required by law. good roadholding, and braking to match the performance. one small flaw, however, is that there are no electronics to calm down the kicking and sliding, so watch out for snowshoe kicks when you go back on the throttle. this bike really deserves a KTEC-type electronic assistance system, which kawa already has on other bikes, especially as legislation should soon allow the use of 138 purebreds. Switch to twin-cylinder if you want light ^^ Rating : 5/5 Participate in the conversation
Had the opportunity to see the beast again, it's really superb, what a look? enough to make us drool with envy, especially for a biker like me still riding a 125
See you soon Rating : 5/5 Respond to pierrot46
...well, I didn't: I like it, and I can feel that it's going to make my heart bleed when I see it next year if I don't buy it! Too bad, I'll change my car in 2011 !!!
Bravo Kawa!
(if not, I agree about the tank: 15L is really ridiculous) Rating : 5/5 Respond to Raph
But I can say that 15L for the tank is a huge mistake.
