presentation of the Brutale 1090 RR 2010

the new roadster emperor is called the 1090 R. Introduced at the same time as its little brother, the 990, the Brutale family wasn't about to let its youngest member take all the credit. Developed on the same base, the big and beautiful roadster from Varese also logically boasts 85% new parts. Its 4-cylinder engine is based on the 998 cm3 of its sibling, with the same piston stroke and a 3 mm larger bore. The 1090 R Brutale therefore boasts a displacement of 1078 cm3 (what's that got to do with the name? Don't try to understand,,); the same cubic capacity as the previous 1078 RR, which had previously been powered by the fabulous F4 1080 CC - quite a family affair. What's surprising is the lower claimed power output: 144 hp - whereas the previous version developed 10 more. As a result, the difference in horsepower between the 990 and 1090 is only a handful, but the electronic management, torque distribution and superior chassis quality should clearly mark their respective territories.

because engine and chassis have changed. In addition to its dimensions and power, the Brutale's block also benefits from improved cooling and lubrication circuits, a new gearbox, and to distinguish it from the 990, the rocker cover is painted red. The chassis has also undergone a facelift. The trellis frame and swingarm appear to be unchanged, yet have been lightened and strengthened. The wheelbase is some 20 mm longer, and the caster angle has been increased from 24.5° to 25° - the new, lighter rims (different from those on the 990) will maintain the machine's liveliness. Efficiency is further enhanced by optimized suspension and the introduction of a rotary steering damper. Sportier than its sibling, the 1090 pampers the rider with 10 mm larger brake discs (320 in diameter), radial monobloc calipers, adjustable footrests and.... the look of this now timeless silhouette.

but like a Monster or a 916, the Brutale can't change. Massimo Tamburini's design has been preserved, merely retouched on details such as the headlights and rear trim, with the name Brutale engraved on the flanks near the new LED lights. Then there are the new handlebars, the new intake gills and the velvety headlight. Identical in shape, barely concealing new irises, including 2 series of LEDs creating a superb line of nightlights. The indicators, tired of hanging between the fork and the headlight, have simply been integrated into the mirrors. The most obvious change is the speedometer. Nothing in common with the old one. Some will find its design less sporty, more "Japaneseized", but we can only applaud the additional information it provides.

easier to ride, smoother power delivery, less vibration and smoother electronics for the rider... Will the Brutale still wear its name so proudly with these new indulgences it bestows on its pretenders?
