presentation of the Ninja 300 R 2015
to succeed the Ninja 250 R, Kawasaki didn't compromise. Changing a bulb here or a blinker cap there, just to talk about upgrades, is not what this little Kawa is all about. The reality is simpler: we're changing everything: a bigger engine, a completely reworked design, a brand-new dashboard, a revised chassis and increased performance. Make way for the Kawasaki Ninja 300 R.
what poise! From the outset, the Ninja 300 R shows that it's in a different league. With its sharp, dynamic design, sporty aluminum footpegs, side-mounted indicators, ZX-6 R look, ZX-10 R-style floating bubble, ZZR 1400-inspired fairing and wheel designs, this machine is emboldened by the aura of Kawa's big guns. It's a real eye-catcher. Up close and personal, the mininja (contraction of mini and ninja, lol) looks bigger than it is.
hard to believe there's a 300 living under there. More like 296 cm3, to be precise. With this extra ladle of displacement, the Kawa is well placed to take the lead in the class, and hold its own against its designated rival: the Honda CBR 300 R. But there's more danger on the way: a fearsome KTM RC 390 and an intrepid Yamaha R3.
But what about this engine? New twin or re-boring of the 250? Simply a lengthening of the piston stroke, which is always good for torque. Between the crankcases, it's all techno: dual throttle injection and controlled slip clutch; the kind of gear you'd normally see on a supersport bike. In the interests of comfort, the engine-makers have optimized vibration levels and heat dissipation. In fact, the fairing sides are designed for better heat evacuation.
With power on the cusp of 40 hp, you can start having fun with this 300. With your head in the bubble and your mirrors retracted, a young rider should be able to achieve a good top speed, probably enough to burn your license. But don't take any chances: you'll only go fast on the racetrack... The main benefit for everyday use is more torque and better acceleration.
forget the traditional, sad Renault 5-style needle-type instrument panel. We've replaced it with a sporty instrument cluster: sharp design, central analog rev counter and remote digital display. The digital display provides information on speed, time, fuel gauge, double trip and, as a bonus, an economy indicator.
But to take advantage of all this, it's out of the question to keep the structure of the late 250 unchanged. Instead, a new frame, a wider tire now 140 mm wide, and even worse, an ABS. Surprising, isn't it? And yet, the Ninja 300 R can indeed be fitted with anti-lock brakes.
this Kawasaki Ninja 300 R is a brilliant replacement for the 250, and offers some excellent arguments. A real conquest machine for emerging countries, where most manufacturers are honing their best-sellers in this displacement bracket. The echo won't be as strong in our country, which is more fond of displacements at least twice as large. But times are changing, and energy now eats up a big chunk of the wallet, so it's no coincidence that more and more models are occupying the 125 to 500 cm3 range. Mininja, it's your turn!

I wanted a small-displacement motorcycle that was economical and easy to get started with. So, am I going to enjoy riding a motorcycle?
Well, after several hundred kilometers, I'm very satisfied. I was particularly taken with its lines.
Once you open the throttle and crank up the revs, this little machine accelerates very well indeed. Between 6 and 7 seconds to reach 100kms/h...with a two-cylinder noise, but good.
Almost identical in size to its big sister, the 636.
What's really funny are the biker buddies who stop in front of the machine, asking me every time "Is that a 600?
No, it's a 300.... Maybe the 600 will be next, who knows!
