presentation of the 950 Adventure 2005

kTM does nothing like everyone else. To launch a model on the market, it first baptizes it in competition. If it works, it goes into full-scale production. The 950 Adventure has validated its potential on the Dakar Rally and other sandy challenges. At first glance, the KTM is impressive: tall, imposing, cut to the bone, the Austrian is imposing. The mechanics are the antithesis of the design - the almost 1-liter twin is particularly compact, trapped in a chromium-molybdenum trellis frame. Climbing aboard is as easy as riding a dromedary (a little less so on the 2005 version, whose suspension has been lowered by 20 mm); everything changes once you're up there: the machine's narrowness and low center of gravity give you confidence. Doing U-turns with the machine is also part of the sport. Fortunately, once on the road, the rover becomes a ballerina. The engine is impatient and loves to be teased, never missing an opportunity to leap towards the red zone. The chassis follows suit with neutrality and ease. The balance is impeccable; you only have to look at the trajectory and the bike settles in effortlessly. Agile and stable, it's easy to forget its size - it's not particularly heavy, and the masses are well distributed. Playing is no problem: the engine expresses itself joyfully, and the clutch and gearbox are noticed only for their smoothness and efficiency. The suspension is not to be outdone. Their long travel allows you to venture off the billiard table, but they are firm enough to ensure smooth handling. Comfort loses out somewhat - but on all types of road, the Adventure's handling is superb. The brakes on the 950 speak for themselves. The double-disc brakes come into play immediately, without brutality, preventing the forks from suddenly sinking into the asphalt. A full set of equipment, a polished finish and surprisingly effective protection (given the size of the bubble) are also part of the package. A game that will be played against the BMW R 1200 GS, queen of the segment.

All they do is make my mouth water with their "riditouresse" comments, I thought..
Well, the best thing was to take a closer look at this beautiful Austrian with a slight afterthought of "if they're all right, it'll finally be time for my granny of 14 years of loyal service to retire (an Africa from 1992)!"
Oufti! First the position... High enough to spot the traffic!
Start, Aaaaaah..... stall!
Didjûûûu, get used to the injection, no choke and don't touch the throttle when I press the starter... it starts by itself! Ah, OK, let's do it again!
Vlaaam, vlaaam! Wow, Austrians always get the highest marks when it comes to music!
Let's get the dibs, shall we?
No "clac", no latency... here we go!
Holaaaa! Easy on the throttle!
There's a real engine on there, I'm up to 6000 rpm without even realizing it, and the digital speedometer is already telling me 160 hm/h! I've been taken in by the symphony of the mighty LC8, but I'd better let go a bit if I don't want to end up on the violin!
Well, well, a roundabout... Oops, it's already gone! The brand-new scorpios really stick!
Here I am at home, and I know a corner of the garrigue that I could go and visit again, just to see how it goes where I venture out in 1st gear, 2 feet on each side, ready to restore balance at any moment with my lumbering Africa..
This is the way... I turn off the ignition, check to see if there's a green man in sight, then turn it back on and press the anti-ABS button on the dashboard for 3 seconds, it flashes, ayé it's all good, let's test where there's no tarmac!
The garrigue is notoriously rocky, so beware... Preums, deuz pis troisième, même pas peur, allez soyons fous, j'enclenche la 4 ! Amazing! I don't even feel like I'm on a 1000, the weight is so evenly distributed. Some rocks squirt out the back, but there's no slipping - the scorpios are doing a great job there too! Okay, I get it, where my Africa goes, the Adventure goes!
Back to the dealership... perhaps the hardest part of the test, sniff!
After a few little "vlam-vlam" on the main road, just to let you know that I'm only a "weak 2-wheeler", a few nice cashiers kindly step aside to clear the way for me to the dealership
End of story: where do we sign?

Now, just a few more days of patience and... the sweet music of this beautiful Austrian!
Frankly, you've all convinced me... but trying it out is even better!

i've been the lucky recipient of a 2004 950 for a week now, silver from her beautiful dress and cut with a knife, athletic and slender this young girl is dedicated to giving her all.My job as a motorcycle driving instructor here in Quebec gives me the chance to try out different models of bike, and Ktm is truly dedicated to giving us a motorcycle with soul. It's a feeling that came over me the first time I rode one, three years ago now, and this fine piece of machinery is truly the best that Europe has to offer Rating : 5/5

This bike is truly extraordinary, because you have to be a sexagenarian to have owned 20 motorcycles. The secret of longevity is in the couple. And I speak as a connoisseur. My only concern is the lack of ground clearance in corners. Rating : 5/5
French Gontran Model 2003
Fantastic bike. I've ridden a lot of bikes (road, roadster, supermotard, trail, enduro, custom and so on). This KTM will be my 20th bike, and I can tell you that it can do it all, and in the best possible way. Of course, its aesthetics are a little plastic for lovers of fine mechanicals, of which I am one, but once you're in the saddle, you're in for a treat. Flexibility, comfort and protection, motor sensations. In short, you can do it all, and do it perfectly. Having ridden the 1150 GS and 1200 GS (excellent bikes, by the way), I can confirm that this bike really is more fun! As the KTM slogan so aptly puts it, you need vitamins, so go for the Orange....

Greetings to all and bon route....

It's a bike for which I'm still looking for a competitor, but haven't found one yet. Vaccinated to off-roading since the cradle, I ride my XR650R on trails and I was frustrated by the lack of versatility of my XJR 1300, which didn't allow me to make escapades on forest trails during my tourist outings with the missus. I lasted 3 years with the XR for the TT and for fun outings in town or on small roads, and the XJR for the cooler roads, then I tried a 950 ADV. Result: 1 month later, I bought a brand-new, super-equipped Adventure S from 2004. Farewell to the too wise and docile XJR. As PHIL said in one of the messages, it's a big XR, with that bewitching noise and playful character that puts a smile on your face as soon as you get on it. Really, I'd do it all over again. I've been riding an Adventure for a year now. I'm 1.73 m tall, and the seat height doesn't bother me (just a little for maneuvering...). This bike is a must-have, a rare pleasure to get off a muddy track and tease anything on the road. It can't be compared to the GS (that's a bit of an insult!!!). Finally, a word of advice: if you're going out on the TT, don't forget to buy the optional tank protection bar. Isn't that KILLER TIG? Rating : 5/5

French PHIL Model 2003
After 30 years of motorcycling and a lot of bikes of all kinds, I can assure you that this bike is exceptional. I'm 1.76 m tall, and there's no problem with seat height. Don't hesitate to set the amorto to the softest setting, and it will lower sufficiently. The engine and gearbox are very pleasant and sporty when you feel like it. It handles like a big XR650 on the trails. On the road, it swallows everything up, like a magic carpet. When it comes to sensations, it's a real blast. It lifts off the throttle with ease. She's really very playful. What a pleasure!
Oh yes, I forgot: its noise....one never tires of it. A must try.

The new saddle is priced at 860; KTM offers a base saddle, still with gel, which saves 2 cm. Touratech also offers a low comfort saddle. You can also lower the machine by adjusting the suspension with tools for the front and without tools for the rear. With all this, I think we should be able to reach between 820 and 830. But perhaps it's better to wait until the suspensions (stiff when the machine is new) are broken in before lowering the beast too much. What a joy! This machine, with its glittery orange color, looks more like a farm tractor than a motorcycle, and maybe that's why I like it. It's the stuff! Rating : 5/5
French PMC91 Model 2003
With a seat height of 840, as on the 1200GS, my feet are perfectly flat. I'm only 1.75 m tall, but with a small ass and long legs, I'm fine. The problem is that BM's R1200GS is a real piece of crap from a technical point of view. I'm crazy about the Adventure, but I'm not sure I'll fit in with the saddle. It's a pity that manufacturers don't make more effort to solve this recurring problem. Rating : 5/5

tastes and colors... Me, I think this Katoche looks pretty good, classy in black and gray and way too cool in orange! I've tried it out, and it's really a marvel of a wheel. A great motor, a perfect cycle part. As soon as I've got the money, I'm going to buy it, to give my Duke a rest! Rating : 5/5

French Adventure Model 2003
I bought it about a year ago and am delighted with it. It's not ugly at all (especially in black/grey) and is downright efficient and anti-depressant. It really moves and the cycle part is a delight. It's also great for riding upright, and impressive for taking city sidewalks without putting your foot down... Certainly more virile than the BM 1200 GS. The only slight handicap: fuel consumption that can exceed 9 liters per 100 km if you're in a playful mood... Rating : 5/5
