presentation of the 990 Adventure 2012
has the time of great adventures come to an end? Where is the world heading if epics are disappearing? Even the Paris-Dakar no longer recognizes itself: it set off from the city of light to fall asleep on the pink lake... Tomorrow, it will cross South America. Even the trails are getting lost, abandoned to excess, sent back into the rut by the law of street-fighters and the power of hypersports. Is adventure just a dream?
not according to KTM, or Yamaha for that matter. While the Japanese manufacturer is still defending the scent of hot sand with its recent XTZ 660 Ténéré, the Austrian brand is further strengthening its position in the conquest of the dunes. Its weapon: the Adventure, revised and improved for 2009. Corrections or improvements? Just enough to make it the queen of adventurers, with the aim of thumbing its nose at the BMW R 1200 GS when it comes to fords, mud and rocks.
new paintwork, fine styling tweaks and a reworked dashboard are all welcome extras. But they are less evocative than the mechanical improvements. New mapping and a new crankshaft have been installed to make the engine more flexible, reduce vibrations and increase available power. The 990 Adventure now offers 106 horsepower (+8 bhp) and a spoonful of extra torque. Maintenance of the LC8 has also been improved. ABS is still on board, and can be disengaged for off-road escapades.

The best thing is that with the same bike, you can also go for a ride with friends on the roads, and thanks to the engine and a very nice chassis, you don't look ridiculous on the main roads. You can also ride on the freeway, as you're very well protected.
The only limitation I find is that at sustained speeds, from 170 180 onwards, it becomes imprecise and tends to wobble at the rear (perhaps due to my tkc80 tires, which are more geared to off-road riding) Rating : 5/5 Respond to Fred
it eats a little oil and likes fuel, but what an engine and what a cycle. I've been dreaming about it since it came out, it's been mine for 2 years, and I've found my bike. Rating : 4/5 Respond to Xav990

You send the saddle by mail after having chosen the model on line; I am low on legs 1m63. There's also a way to lower the shock absorber by changing the two flat fasteners. (I have a suzu bandit 1250.) Rating : 3/5 Participate in the conversation
