presentation of the 450 EXC 2013
the KTM 450 EXC is without doubt one of the best motorcycles in its class. Compact design, easy maintenance and exceptional robustness for minimum weight - these are the characteristics of the SOHC engine. Together with Keihin's EFI system, it delivers unrivalled performance and riding pleasure, specially tuned for enduro riding.
cylinder head
The SOHC cylinder head features an overhead camshaft that drives titanium intake valves and steel exhaust valves. The entire configuration has been optimized for Keihin's EFI system to enhance the handling and performance of the 2013 KTM 450 EXC.
electronic fuel injection / Electronic engine management
Keihin's Engine Management System with electronic fuel injection and 42 mm (1.65 in) throttle valves delivers spontaneous, powerful throttle response and maximum performance. Automatic temperature and altitude compensation are state-of-the-art. With the optional Map-Select-Switch (PowerParts), you can easily select different engine characteristics.
clutch
The clutch housing with timing gear is machined from a single piece of high-strength steel. This guarantees unprecedented reliability and, thanks to its compact, rivet-free design, contributes to the finesse of the engine. It also allows the use of thinner steel plates, making the whole clutch even more compact. An elastic washer enables additional hub damping - an invaluable advantage in terms of traction and gearbox durability. The Brembo hydraulic clutch and spring washer guarantee easy, controllable progressiveness.
frame
In keeping with KTM tradition, frames are made from high-quality, lightweight chromium-molybdenum steel. Combined with a PDS damping system at the rear, they are designed to perfectly absorb any shocks the rear wheel may inflict on the frame. Contrary to the trend towards aluminum frames among our competitors, we supply high-tech steel frames that weigh around 0.5 kg (1.1 lb.) less than the lightest frames on the market. What's more, our frames are easy to maintain and leave more space for the fuel tank and other components.
brakes
Brembo brakes are standard on KTM off-road bikes, with lightweight Wave disc brakes for optimum performance in terms of progressiveness and stopping power. The improved rear brake cylinder features a new design that ensures less wear on the rubber seals, and therefore longer life.
swingarm
From 2013 onwards, all KTM EXC models feature a lightweight aluminium-moulded swingarm, directly connected to the PDS shock absorber at the top. The aluminum casting process produces a one-piece swingarm with unlimited geometric possibilities, while reducing any defects caused by welding work. The swingarm has been designed to offer the desired flexibility while assisting the suspension, and without compromising torsional strength.
wheels
KTM wheels with CNC-machined hubs and proven quality come as standard. They feature new, extremely robust GIANT 7050 aluminum rims, while the spokes are now black-coated to improve their corrosion resistance. New MAXXIS FIM tires specially designed for KTM offer excellent grip, precise handling and long life.
fuel tanks
the slim 9 l (10 qt.) fuel tanks are made of lightweight, transparent polyethylene, allowing the fuel level to be viewed from the outside. The bayonet-type tank lid opens easily with a quarter-turn and incorporates protection against accidental unscrewing.
