presentation of the 450 EXC 2015
the 450 EXC is one of the most powerful enduro machines in its class. The combination of light weight and high-tech, large-displacement SOHC 4-stroke engine is the right choice for anyone who wants the maximum performance of a 4-stroke combined with the playful handling of the E2 class. This powerhouse is undoubtedly the benchmark in its class.
engine Management System (EMS)
Keihin's Engine Management System (EMS) with electronic fuel injection and 42 mm butterflies guarantees spontaneous responsiveness and maximum engine performance. A 196 W oil-cooled generator provides sufficient power for fuel injection, lighting and other consumers. The Map-Select-Switch available in the PowerPart catalog enables various engine characteristics to be selected via the EMS. In addition, an optional User-Setting-Tool lets you use a laptop to access motorcycle data and modify ignition and fuel injection mapping with a few clicks.
dDS clutch
For the 2015 model year, the DDS (Damped Diaphragm Steel) clutch benefits from a redesigned, more lightweight, one-piece bell.milled in one piece with the timing gear in high-strength steel. This process guarantees unrivalled reliability, and the compact, rivet-free design of the clutch housing results in a very slim engine. This design also allows the use of thinner steel plates, which also contribute to the clutch's compact dimensions. The spring washer provides additional hub damping: an invaluable advantage in terms of traction and gearbox wear. Finally, the Brembo hydraulically actuated clutch and spring washer guarantee easy, controllable progressiveness.
cylinder head
The cylinder head features an overhead camshaft. This drives two titanium intake valves and two steel exhaust valves. The weight-optimized timing system ensures reduced friction and superior performance, as well as less pronounced engine braking.
oil circuit
The engine features two oil pumps and a common oil circuit. A pressure pump ensures reliable lubrication of the connecting rod, piston, balancer shaft and valve train. It also cools the ignition and lubricates the clutch. A vacuum pump draws oil from the crankcase and lubricates the gearbox.
engine
Developed for rugged enduro use, the 449.3 cm³ SOHC engine features an extremely compact design, ease of maintenance and excellent robustness for minimum weight. With Keihin fuel injection, it offers unrivalled performance and handling, specifically targeted for enduro use.
starter
The 450 EXC is equipped as standard with both kick and electric starter ignition. The electric starter is well protected behind the cylinder.
piston
The lightweight forged piston is equipped with the high-performance rings of the 450 SX-F. It offers minimized oil consumption and top performance.
crankcase
The connecting rod, with a 63.4 mm stroke and ultra-light connecting rod, is made by Pankl from high-grade steel. Like other 4-stroke models, it features a plain bearing in the lower connecting rod eye. Two pressed bearings are directly connected to the crankpin. The oil required for the bearing is supplied by the engine's pressure lubrication system. This design enhances engine durability, thus extending crankshaft overhaul intervals - a benefit for customers in terms of time, cost and labor.
balancer shaft
For mass balancing, the engine features a balancer shaft that also serves as a drive for the water pump.
gearbox
The 6-speed gearbox is specially stepped for the characteristics of the 450 cm³ engine and for all types of enduro use. It is characterized by precision and ease of shifting.
frame
The 450 EXC's modern frame design in lightweight, high-strength chromium-molybdenum steel tubing combines maximum longitudinal rigidity with optimum torsional rigidity. This not only ensures good handling and precise steering, but also excellent ride stability. The new frame not only shines in its new colors, but also clearly sets new standards in terms of weight and stability. The frame of this 2015 version shines in the same orange as the KTM factory team models, making its design even more attractive. It's also easier to maintain and offers more space for the fuel tank and other components. The frame design, combined with the PDS rear shock absorber, optimally dissipates rear-wheel shocks.
swingarm
The cast aluminum swingarm has been designed using state-of-the-art calculation and simulation software; the design and wall thickness ensure minimum weight for optimum strength and a perfectly defined flex.
suspension / damping
The KTM 450 EXC features individual suspension tuning perfectly matched to its weight and engine. The high-quality WP suspension components have been specially designed for enduro use, ensuring maximum grip and comfort. at the rear, a PDS shock absorber with direct connection above the swingarm. A wide range of fork rebound damping settings, as well as Highspeed and Lowspeed compression damping, come as standard with KTM.
fork crowns
The fork crowns have been specially designed for enduro use, ensuring precise handling by supporting the fork flex. The rider receives precise feedback from the front wheel even on the toughest terrain, increasing safety and speed.
fairing
The fairing has been designed with ergonomics and functionality in mind, so that every detail of the bike is in perfect harmony with the rider.
air box
The ingenious design of the airbox ensures optimum protection of the air filter from dirt, and maximum air flow for enhanced performance. The airbox covers are manufactured using a two-component process, with new "Inmould" graphics. Filter replacement is quick and tool-free. Two additional tabs on the cover also allow it to be secured with screws.
tachometer
The new MAE tachometer integrates all indicator lights into a single component (with the exception of the indicators). The cockpit is thus clear and uncluttered, making the available information easy to read.
exhaust
Lightweight and robust. The aluminum mufflers on EXC models are renowned for their excellent performance and low noise levels, well below FIM standards. For its 2015 version, the 450 benefits from a new muffler with a perforated tube to reduce noise levels and further improve performance.
wheels
The wheels feature new Giant 7050 T6 aluminum rims, with black-coated spokes, lightweight aluminum nipples and CNC-machined hubs, guaranteeing maximum stability for minimum weight. Maxxis enduro tires specially developed for KTM offer perfect grip and excellent performance.
brakes
High-tech Brembo brakes have long been standard on KTM off-road bikes, with lightweight Wave disc brakes for optimum braking performance. Best-in-class enduro brakes, they remain unchanged on this 2015 version.
