presentation of the 450 SMR 2021
katoche has communicated so much about its Adventure and Duke models that we had almost forgotten its penchant for supermotard bikes. The 690 SMC R has already made its mark on the range, and now the 450 SMR is back with a dry, muscular, racing look. Seven years after causing a sensation with the release of this super-powered, ultra-light supermotard, KTM intends to make a stunning comeback in this segment from 2021. To re-establish its leadership in this sector, KTM has concocted a formidably efficient machine based on the proven technical base of the KTM 450 SX-F, multiple world championship winner.
after a long hiatus, and to fill a gap in its extensive range of motorcycles, KTM has decided to bring back the model that has won the admiration of supermoto fans. The fruit of meticulous preparation, the new version is already shaping up to be the next benchmark on the circuit, much to the delight of category enthusiasts.
ready to make lightning speak from the very first turns of the wheel thanks to its high-flying performance, the 450 SMR embodies the "READY TO RACE" spirit for which the orange brand is renowned. This machine is a competitor at heart.
it' s powered by the 450 cm3 engine that made the KTM 450 SX-F the queen of motocross and supercross. The latest 4-stroke technology developed by KTM boasts no less than 63 hp at a weight of just over 27 kg. Supermoto riders expect excellent feel and extreme maneuverability from their bikes as they glide across the asphalt. That's why the engine has been cleverly positioned on the 450 SMR to promote mass centralization. Beneath the SOHC cylinder head lies a lightweight aluminum cylinder (95 mm bore) driven by a 320 g piston, which delivers monstrous torque. The crankshaft, meanwhile, has been strategically positioned to enhance the bike's manoeuvrability. An ultra-sophisticated connecting rod completes the picture. A guarantee of reliability, it ensures long 100-hour service intervals.

the bike's frame is made of chromium-molybdenum steel tubes, assembled by automated welding to guarantee the highest levels of precision and quality. The torsional rigidity and flexibility of the frame have been specially calculated to enable the 450 SMR to perform at its best from the very first laps of the track. Chassis behavior is particularly stable in a straight line, guaranteeing excellent grip and lightning acceleration.
the steering is highly informative, enabling ultra-fast course changes with complete confidence. Claimed to weigh just 900g, the aluminum rear fork also plays its part in making the chassis lighter and more robust. CNC-machined fork crowns with 16 mm offset allow riders to adjust the handlebars in three different ways, so as to find the ideal riding position. In addition to being extremely lightweight, the die-cast swingarm allows wheelbase adjustment to enhance track feel.
the fork tees are fitted with a 48 mm XACT air fork with AER technology and separate damping circuits, designed by WP Suspension. The use of a floating piston damping system brings a real plus in terms of performance. Lightweight, compact and fully adjustable, the XACT WP shock absorber provides the feel supermotard riders need to stick to the asphalt, and the ride quality required to confidently negotiate off-road bumps. The cohesion between the rear wheel (which offers 266 mm of travel, compared with 285 mm at the front), the linkage system and the geometry of the rear axle is essential for maximum riding comfort and unrivalled handling.

every detail counts to make the difference on the track. That's why our R&D engineers wanted to make a big impression with this SMR. The high-strength aluminum radiator was designed using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for maximum efficiency. Its position was calculated to centralize mass.
the 44 mm Keihin fuel injection body ensures smooth throttle response, while the sophisticated Keihin engine management system adapts engine mapping, start and traction control to the rider's needs. The special design of the air filter housing ensures the vigorous throttle response required for supermotard riding. The 7-liter fuel tank allows you to indulge your passion for hours on end. What's more, the fuel line is perfectly protected inside the bike. Lightweight and robust, the ALPINA 16.5/17 supermoto tubeless spoked rims, fitted with Bridgestone slick tires, are ready to be put to the test. The bike also looks great, with its fine racing-style bodywork and a contemporary deco kit.
