presentation of the X-Ride 125 2024
Mash doesn't just sell affordable motorcycles with retro charm. It also knows how to surprise. With its Family-side, which has put the spotlight on these atypical and endearing machines; with a desert legionnaire's touch, as shown by the 400 Desert Force; with the inspiration of a certain XT 500 to give birth to a retro rather than neo trail bike, the X-Ride 650..
The brand believes so strongly in its gromono trail bike that it has decided to make a whole sibling out of it: the X-Ride is offered in 50 and 125 cm3 versions. Whether 14-year-olds want a machine more intrepid than a scooter, or A1 badge holders want to be the riders of a 125 that's almost atypical today, this machine lends itself to a certain poly-vaillance. Its presence will be noticed, in a 1/8th-liter world where only small roadsters and sportbikes stand out on the road.
Quite frankly, how many small-displacement off-road trailers are there left today? Nothing from the major brands, except Aprilia with its RX / SX 125; a very enduro Beta RR, or a not very roadworthy Rieju Marathon - After that, you have to start looking at the edge of the microcosm, with Magpower X-Trail, Malaguti Dune, Motron X-Nord... In short, you can find them. But XTs, DRs and KLX 125s aren't around any more.
The 125 X-Ride will provide a pleasant alternative. Its design is closely modelled on the 650, so the feeling of déjà-vu goes hand in hand with a certain legitimacy. The gold spoked rims are a real eye-catcher! From the bodywork to the shape of the fuel tank to the number plates, the two siblings rival each other in similarity. It's on the engine side that the difference is most obvious. Paradoxically, one might think that the 125 is better motorized than the 6 and a half.

Quite a difference from the old air-cooled mills, with 5 gears under the boot and 10 horsepower at the end of the connecting rod. Now, motive power climbs to 15 hp. A welcome vigor that will make the X-Ride alert and fun (within the limits of its domain, of course).
Like the engine, the 125's front end looks stronger. The appearance of the inverted fork muddies the waters. At 41 mm in diameter, it's thinner than the 43 mm of itsX-Ride sibling. The frame is a classic tubular steel cradle, while the swingarm is aluminum. As for braking, it's entrusted to two discs bitten by double-piston calipers - a 290 mm disc for the front and a 240 mm disc for the rear. All reinforced by ABS. Sufficient without being formidable.
The X-Ride 125 also aims to seduce beyond its conceptual motivations. The headlight exudes modernity with its multiple LEDs and perfectly circular daytime visual signature. The Monza fuel filler cap and brake fluid reservoir add a sporty touch, while the flanged seat is retro in style, and a small package holder holds a pack of ..... soft drinks.

We'll also grumble about the instrumentation. Admittedly supplied with little more than the essentials: engine rpm, gear engaged, speed, trip and fuel gauge - but this dashboard is really tiny. Readability could suffer.
After first hearing about a "small" X-Ride, we quickly thought it was a revival of the 125 DTMX. The reality is somewhat different. The star of the '80s smacked of versatility, fields, high school, the end of the world as well as the end of the street. The Mash is more streetwise, almost as fun, but with less carefree attitude. Times have changed, and so have young people.
The appropriation of a modern engine has an influence on the cost, and it's impossible to offer the X-Ride at as low a price as the Mash "before". But at less than 4,000 bales (a little more with taxes and miscellaneous charges), it remains well placed against the Japanese 125s.
