presentation of the 400 Scrambler 2016

Quietly and surely making its way on the market, Mash is determined to take its share of the cake in the current neo-vintage trend. Retro roadsters, café-racers, hipster sandwiches are all believable, but this year it's all about the Scrambler. Mash unveils its Scrambler, closely derived from the Five Hundred.

unadorned, except for this rather nice orange color, this Scrambler is all about simplicity. Up close and personal, you can smell the retro, the fine mud crackling on the hot metal, the sweat on your knees as you start off. Not the kind of bike for the"I'm just showing off" crowd, but for those who want something fun, accessible, fashionable but not victimized.
Like many of its brethren, this machine compromises on a few of the codes of the authentic scrambler. There's no raised exhaust pipe, as is customary, and the aim is to increase ground clearance. This choice is validated by the preservation of a passenger's calves. However, the 125 of the same name has enhanced its lines...
Fortunately, honor is preserved with spoked rims, studded tires (in moderation) and cross handlebars. A race plate above the headlight, a grille in front of it, gussets on the fork and you're in for a treat. Its big, finned mono and simplistic frame design transport us straight back to the first color films. It's not vintage, it is.

the style is there, highlighting the differences with the Five Hundred. The exhaust line changes, ending in a megaphone-type muffler. The Siemens injection system has been somewhat revised, but is not without its faults. The 400 Scrambler gains a good deal of black, less wrap-around mudguards, a sleeker rear end, complemented by a small round light and suspensions better suited to off-road skirmishes. The fork increases from 35 to 41 mm, while the shock absorbers have been redesigned to withstand the rigors of off-road riding.

the finish won't just compete with nobler, much more expensive machines. For some, it will pass for Chinese-level quality; normal, the bike comes from there. For others, it'll give it an "in its element" personality. Naturally, you'll want to start with thumb action, but.... That would be to deny yourself the charm of a good old kick start, which the Mash offers. It has the ability to make you discover what was the norm decades ago. The dashboard tells you the essentials, with its two needle meters and no more. Forget the fuel gauge, hinged cap and ABS.

but once you're underway, the charm begins. The mono, with its distant Honda origins, is not very powerful with its 27 hp. But it knows how to give pleasure in ways other than big watts. Its character, that little piston stroke that only monos know how to hit, that joyfulness that makes it endearing. Don't give him a hard time. Its pretensions are limited, and its top speed is far from honourable. Think instead of the foggy mornings and the clods of earth you'll want to lift as you set off on your jaunt. This is a motor from another era, simple in both design and use. You'll just have to think about a little more maintenance.
A drum brake at the rear is about as common as a K7 Walkman. The front is more contemporary, with a 280 mm disc bitten by two pistons - and an aviation hose, if you please!

as you'll have gathered, the Mash 400 Scrambler is a classic machine, far removed from technological overkill and marketing hype. It's a simple pleasure machine, designed to take your eyes off the road and have a good time. On the other hand, there's no need to splash out on 5-year chrome to ride vintage. With no real rivals, and virtually alone in its class, the 400 Scrambler is one of the most charming machines in its class. Its price is one of its most striking assets.

Can anyone tell me where to find the selector on my 2019 scrambler mash 400? Thank you very much and have a nice day Olivier Rating : 4/5
French patcat Model 2020
I bought this 400cc in August 2021. It has 1500km
No mechanical problems. It idles at 1500 rpm. It's really light and the 28hp are enough to have fun. The sound is very muffled, it has a lot of torque at low revs, so I can take a bend in 3rd gear at 2500 rpm without downshifting, a real pleasure to drive. As it cost 3,995 euros, I exchanged it for the Honda Rebel, which I bought back for 3,200 euros, so it didn't cost me much either.

I put 3/5 on my 2016 Mash 400 scrambler because the big negative point is rust! Bought at 1,000 km, now soon 4,000km there is already rust on the spokes of the rims and the exhaust line mainly when I do not ride when it rains, always stored in the garage and washed. As for the paintwork, it's of the same poor quality, the tank cap isn't watertight, it vibrates badly and sometimes misfires. On the plus side, it's economical 4l/100km, very versatile vmax 150km/h original, comfortable, very nice original noise, nice spout and very pleasant to drive! Rating : 3/5
French Plusjamais Model 2020
In less than 1000 km,
I lost the shifter, the brake pedal and almost lost the saddle on the road.
The injector was only screwed on 2 threads that were already screwed up. And the list goes on.
Being a motorcycle mechanic, I'm quite concerned about this kind of thing, so I sorted it all out. Granted, it's "only" a 4000th bike, but that's no reason to let a dangerous bike go. I don't take 4000 out just like that, and when I see that it's supposed to be assembled and inspected in France, I'm afraid.

Most people comment on this 400 Mash as if it were a €17,000 BMW. Can we really make the same demands of a €4000 Mash? Honestly! Please stop denigrating this brand, which has improved a lot by observing after-sales returns, and which allows everyone to afford a nice toy designed by a motorcycle lover. Some people talk about a motorcycle for women. What kind of segregation and machismo is this! I had a Guzzi V7 and the seat height was the same... What's more, we don't all have €17,000 to spend on a BMW Scrambler! Anyway, I'm on my 2nd 400 Mash and I've been riding for 33 years, road, enduro and motocross in the region (in the past) and I never get bored for a second on my way to work with this machine... Sometimes I even have fun playing the fool on the trails. You can transform this bike at will with parts sold by SIMA for next to nothing. Look at the adaptable parts available from other brands. They're so expensive and lucrative that many stores specialize in them. Finally, a motorcycle can be washed, observed and maintained... The real biker is the one who knows how to do that and who rides, not the one who has the biggest and most expensive bike. So far, mine have never broken down, and yet I don't spare them. 1m58, 50 years old, 1st motorcycle since November 2017 I made this choice because I was looking for a cheap motorcycle, seat height less than 80 cm, and light so easy to handle even with a full tank.
4500 kms on the odometer, on all types of roads up to dirt tracks. no mechanical problems, just 2 screws to tighten... I liked its neo-retro look... no regrets ...

It would be interesting to know who these bikes are for!

Do they make them for men?

Before jumping into the comments section, let me clarify what I'm saying.

Think about tall people!
For that, you'd have to stick a 21 wheel on the front, but for that, you'd have to redesign the whole chassis, because it really looks like a 60s petrol tank!
! Increase its ground clearance !
Pump up the engine and fit a 6-speed gearbox! Most 125s have one...
Please, have it assembled in Taiwan! The finish leaves something to be desired…

But keep its ridiculous price and modest fuel consumption.
A sure success if you follow these few tips! You'll even export it!

I've owned it since mid-June 2017, soon 3000 km, works like a charm.nice bike for an unbeatable price, promo at 3990â'¬ turnkey, and it's a real 400, not a 125 in disguise like the yam.no reliability problems to date. I'm very satisfied with my purchase. Rating : 4/5
