presentation of the 400 Force 2019
I announce 'coup de coeur'. Or 'coup de folie', 'curiosity', 'coup de poker'... You name it, but once again, Mash has come up with a wheel that's sure to be the talk of the town. This new 400 Force will turn all passers-by upside down, and they'll all have the same expression."Ehhh, a motorcycle from the war! Terrible restoration, it looks like new."
well, it is new. The SIMA staff had a good nose for this very equivocal decoration. Apart from connoisseurs, most observers will believe they're dealing with a motorcycle that took part in a military conflict in the mid-twentieth century. Everything is there to believe it. The typical army khaki green color, the headlight protection, the streamlined rear trim, the license plate across the extended front fender to flirt with the ground, a solo saddle mounted on springs, a set of accessories with an immediate teaser effect and black to escort the majority color. Exhaust lines, fork tubes, handlebars, shocks, bridges, engine, controls and rear light/plate mount are covered in dark. The Mash concludes the show with an American G.I.-style airbox cover.
back to the accessories. The passenger seat is a real treat to plunge into the past - a frying-pan-wide bicycle seat with a support harness. Whether it will be comfortable and/or practical, no idea; but visually, it's a total eye-catcher... and certainly more so with a well-placed smile.
To complete the identity of a tactical skirmish, the 400 Force places a jerry can and a suitcase on its hips. Enough to pile up the milestones, carry the snacks and detonators, stow away the D-Day plans and set aside a few bandages. Note the leatherette knee grips matching the color of the panniers.
The only lapse in taste is the digital instrumentation. For such a typical machine, a simplified instrument cluster with a needle-type counter would have been more appropriate. The same goes for the fuel injection, which deserves to be hidden behind a cover that mimics a carburetor, as on Triumph's Classic models. It remains to be seen which will be standard or optional.
will they be used to shoot the sequel to M.A.S.H (from which the brand takes its name)? Not really, but it's clear that Mash is going to use this 400 as a publicity stunt. The technical base is the same as that of the Five Hundred, with a 27 hp single-cylinder, steel frame, 35 mm fork, twin side shocks, 280 mm brake disc with two-piston caliper for the front (smaller disc for the rear) and 18" and 17" spoked wheels.
Following on from the Von Dutch limited series, the Mash 400 Force takes up the theme of exclusivity with a limited release of 200 units for Europe. Landing scheduled for March 2019.
