presentation of the 400 Five Hundred Von Dutch 2015
With its successful foray into the retro roadster segment, Mash offers more than just basic 125s in its catalog. The Five Hundred represents a real alternative to the Yamaha SR 400, albeit without the name, and with more to prove. A touch of luxury is now added to the 400's reputation.
To do this, the French brand hasn't chosen a famous rider or event to badge a special series. Instead, the inspiration comes from the world of fashion. The "Von Dutch" label, which is losing ground in the world of sportswear, has been applied to this vintage roadster.
appearing as a prototype at the 2014 EICMA show, the machine was such a hit that it's now entitled to go into (small) series production. The 400 Five Hundred is proud of its simplistic design and old-fashioned technology. For a good handful of euros more, you get a layer of fashion that's far from inconspicuous. In addition to the chocolate color, enthusiasts will immediately appreciate the leather parts on the belt, seat and meter cover. This is unusual work on a motorcycle, carried out by a saddlery craftsman.
Some of the proto's sleeker aspects must have become reasonable... but not totally so. Absent on the original creation, the front mudguard is height-adjustable and the rear one is retractable.
The rest is technically more Cartesian, but remarkable. The Von Dutch makes the difference with a number plate on the headlamp, cross handlebars, heat strips on the exhaust pipes, Ariete grips, Metzeler Karoo 2 tires, and to round things off, special graphics on the tank.
only 200 units of the Mash 400 Five Hundred Von Dutch will be produced, at a price of 6,490 euros. A far cry from the super-affordable price of the standard Five Hundred. 100 will be for France, and the other half for the rest of Europe.
