presentation of the Viper V10 2009
In addition to its freedom, escape and passion, motorcycling is also a vehicle for all kinds of fantasies and extravagances. And that can go a long way. Far beyond the V8-powered Boss Hoss and Rapom, an English engineer has built himself a striking piece of madness: the Millyard Viper V10. A huge engine, insane power, a machine forged in superlatives. And 500 horsepower to boot.
When you're motivated, the sky's the limit. Allen Millyard had to start from the same premise to create this exceptional motorcycle. In an in-house frame, he fitted the engine from one of America's most famous sports cars, the Dodge Viper, with its enormous mill exceeding 8 liters in displacement. 10 cylinders under the tank, with just 20 valves and technology light years ahead of Ferrari or McLaren. This block makes do with a central camshaft and tumbled timing. And yet, we couldn't care less, as the bike is so imposing and seems ready to suffer under the onslaught of torque. Are you worried about your arms with the 22.6 mkg of a Triumph Rocket III? Imagine the muscle strain and rear tire agony of a 72.6 mkg V10! This bike could tow a semi-trailer.
The manufacturer of this engine, Dodge, also created a bike around its V10, the Tomahawk. But with 4 wheels and a design more concept than motorcycle, it was a far cry from the world of two-wheelers. The Millyard, on the other hand, is a real bike, with solutions that are both elegant and conclusive. These include the single-arm design, the two shock absorbers offset under the seat, the large inverted fork and the heavily reinforced braking system. The front brake disc is bitten by two calipers placed opposite each other. It's a big job for the team to keep the 630 kilos of the beast in check - the mill alone weighs almost 320 kilos. Especially as the Millyard is rated for a (theoretical) speed of 450 km/h.
Enthusiasts of big torque and jaded surrealist machines won't be able to remain indifferent to such an achievement. This Millyard Viper V10 can join with great panache the extraordinary creations that rare enthusiasts know how to build. The engine block inspires power and fear with a certain fascination. The chassis is skilfully crafted, and the detail that makes you want to imagine it in action: the center stand. Millyard even thinks about routine maintenance. But he's going to lift a lump like that to grease the sheath kit.
