presentation of the 750 V7 II Stornello 2016

The public wants retro, authentic scents, machines that smell of the past and disregard performance. The manufacturers have understood this and are pulling out all the stops. Except Moto-Guzzi, which has been cultivating its past for ages. Like Triumph with its Bonneville, Guzzi has a stock of references in its grimoires and memories. The V7 is a charming little machine with a deliciously vintage look, and has been in the range for a number of years. Mandello's brand has created a new version, the Stornello, with a slight Scrambler bent. A name taken from the 60s and 70s, when a certain 125 and 160 Stornello existed.

is the Guzzi V7 II Stornello a modern reinterpretation of the Italian starling? Not a chance. The only link through history is the red color on the tubular steel frame. But the symbolism allows us to recall or discover this model of yesteryear. The 125 was conceived as an economical motorcycle; the V7 II Stornello is much more oriented towards fashion, emotion and antics. The heart and body remain, with a twin that's not very powerful, but with the will and architecture of Guzzi. ABS and traction control take care of electronically controlling misplaced enthusiasm.

the bike has character. It doesn't have to be new to have character. It's based on the standard V7 II, with just the right number of accessories from the 110 in the catalog. To become a Scrambler, the V7 II draws on the workshop's goodies, which it assembles into a limited edition model, as only 1,000 Stornellos will be produced. The red-and-white decor is a real eye-catcher, with everything needed to attract flattering comments in front of the bar or at an exhibition. The raised exhaust system is by Arrow, and plays an important part in the bike's identity, as do the spoked wheels, which must be fitted with studded tires. A long, padded seat to protect the rider's bottom, gussets for the fork tubes, and a whole array of aluminum parts to flatter the machine: mudguards, injector covers, number plates and an off-road footrest kit. And last but not least, the V7 II racer's sporty windscreen, with its laser-engraved number on the dashboard.
