presentation of the 675 Brutale 2015
let's face it: this brutal 675 is going to hurt, hurt, hurt. MV-Agusta dares to do what everyone has been hoping for: a roadster with a knockout look, an aura of luxury and prestige, a characterful engine, power, lightness, and at a price that's almost affordable. Look no further! The mid-size Brutale is the perfect temptation.
from its fabulous epic in competition to its dedecade of luxury and prestige, the Varese-based brand has forged a name for itself as the pinnacle of motorcycling. It doesn't matter what model it is; as long as it's an MV, you know it's an exceptional machine. On the strength of this image capital, the manufacturer is now venturing into the fat of the market with two models that shake things up: the sporty F3 and this little Brutale. Let's take a closer look at the latter.
the design! It's all there, just as intense as on day one, when the 750 Brutale was unveiled. Massimo Tamburini's pencil stroke instantly entered the roadster pantheon. Finely reworked on the 990 / 1090, here it develops more youthfulness and a certain impertinence. Less athletic, more mutinous, the design charms with all the warmth of Italian production. The headlight captivates, the body promises, the rear bewitches. The 3 exhaust flutes, taken from the F3, give maximum clearance to the rear wheel while hugging it. As for the single-sided arm.... It's unthinkable that an MV shouldn't have one. Also taken from the sports car, it magnifies the rear axle as it should.
to please! That's something the 675 Brutale has already mastered. But that's not enough. You need to have some guts. For its entry into the world of small streetfighters, the Schiranna factory intends to debunk the competition with a firecracker. A tiny 3-cylinder, 675 cm3, less wide than the keyboard in front of your hands. Surprising in more ways than one, this mill is equipped with a counter-rotating crankshaft - turning it upside down optimizes handling. MV is so proud of its engine that the designers went so far as to integrate the water and oil pumps into the crankcases for maximum fluidity in the mechanical lines.
The heart of this brutale is an F3 engine, barely deflated to offer punch, roundness and fury. Barely fifteen horsepower less for the roadster, which delivers 108 at 12,500 rpm. The first impression would be to compare the raw data with those of the direct competitor: the Triumph Street Triple mill. Same engine architecture, same displacement and same power as the British mill. Only torque is lower, reaching 7 mkg on the British model.
just as powerful, the roadster from Varese plays the weight card and announces less weight than the British model. After its divine face and bewitching engine, the 675 Brutale plays on a key combination: chassis and weight. It declares 163 kg dry weight, 4 less than its direct rival. A truly mini mass! By way of comparison, the Street Triple or 796 Monster weigh in at 167 kg, while the Japanese competition is pachydermic: 200 or more for the Z 750, FZ8, Hornet or GSR.
Now for the road. And here, it's the chassis that will dictate the rules. Brutals have always been stripped-down sports bikes, and the 675 is no different. The frame bears the company's signature: a tubular steel trellis connected to aluminum side plates. Compact and rigid to a fault, it's combined with a 43 mm upside-down fork. The 1,380 mm wheelbase, minimal weight and engine architecture further enhance agility. The Brutale promises to be not only sporty, but also twirly as hell. Especially since electronic aids are coming to the class. Yesterday, they were reserved for MotoGP and Superbikes; today, they're found in hypersports and characterful roadsters. A mid-size streetfighter with traction control was unheard of when the little Brutale came out! And yet, it was, and this machine was proud of it. A choice of 4 injection mappings backed up by 8 possible levels of traction-control - and as a bonus, there's still room in the ECU memory for your MV dealer to do your own injection mapping. The EAS shifter is fitted as standard.
After becoming widespread on 4-cylinder models, ABS invaded the Tre Pistoni range in 2014. The Bosch 9MP control unit is small, light and disconnectable.
mV could have kept things simple, but opted instead for beauty, like these magnificent rims with their ultra-thin spokes, this reservoir with its finely-cut edges, the full-digital dashboard, the slenderness that's so desirable... Oh, of course, all this comes at a price. And Agusta is now playing its last card, the one that will take desire into another dimension. 12 000, 13 000 ? No, just over 10,000 euros. Not bad. It therefore faces the 675 Street Triple R at a price... higher, and will evolve a few price heights above the Japanese armada.
To achieve this "affordable" price for an MV-Agusta, the factory has dispensed with a number of prestigious features. Brake calipers are not monobloc, there are no turn signals integrated into the mirrors, the suspension is virtually non-adjustable (only the amorto preload is), the tires are sporty but not bleeding, and some parts are made in China.
But in the sensation and temptation category, the 675 Brutale is a winner on many levels.
