presentation of the 800 DRAGSTER RR 2019

The first time I saw the Dragster, I thought a guy with a chainsaw had been locked in the workshop. Not very clever, since he'd put it on the back of a Brutale and forgotten to turn it off. But he was anxious to repair his co....rie, since he had reworked the machine in a more personal style. This is by no means the official story, but I prefer my version.
2018 means a different story for the Dragster, but only for the RR version. It's time to evolve, without really renewing itself but introducing a dose of class as well. MV-Agusta has applied itself, taking no risks, preserving the original boldness while bringing it up to date.

a dragster is first and foremost a Brutale. So it's hardly surprising that the Brutale has had a major (and integral?) influence on the rejuvenation of the front end. The same dynamic side scoops, the same more discreet air intake gills, the same LED headlight with stylized contours. In short, the redesign of one benefits the other. On the other hand, a handful of things have changed since theex-Dragster. The mirrors at the ends of the handlebars have disappeared, the turn signals have moved, and the rear end has been given a facelift. The recess under the seat, the removal of the passenger footpegs and the all-new rear headlight - all of these contribute to giving the stern an airy, delicate yet aggressive style.
But the footrests haven't really disappeared. They are much better integrated, as they can be raised under the rear frame. The superb spoked rims are still there, as is the half-handlebar adjustment system.

theMV-Agusta 800 DRAGSTER RR 2019 dashboard has also changed. Finally, it has been taken from the Brutale. And if the engine block has evolved, it's because it also comes from its RR cousin. The 800 Dragster RR boasts a serious 140-strong cavalry, now under the Euro4 umbrella. It has lost none of its power despite the strict standards. The manufacturer has done everything right: revised internal parts, optimized intake, exhaust modifications, redesigned crankcases, etc... In short, everything that has already been done on all Trepistoni models (F3, Brutale, TV) has been applied here. The result is a machine that doesn't gain a pound, and that's far more socially aware than before. Compared to the E3 version, it discharges half as much dirt and its engine boasts 48% less mechanical noise - not to mention the sound of the exhaust, which remains virile.
All this is to please Brussels. For day-to-day use, the gearbox has been completely overhauled. The ball-head has been repositioned in the frame to improve torsional rigidity. Was there a need? Not really. But it does show that MV is always looking to improve.

appropriately equipped with electronics, the Dragster 800 RR updates its MVICS platform. Ride-by-wire has been improved, and new algorithms and engine maps have been specifically programmed for it. And there are still 4 riding modes at your fingertips. Three are pre-calibrated from the factory (Sport - Normal - Rain) and the fourth is largely rider-selectable: engine response, rev limiter, engine torque response, throttle sensitivity and engine braking. With the added support of 8-level traction control, up/down shifter, ABS and an ad hoc chassis. Apart from the migration of the engine within the frame, the chassis remains unchanged. Frame combining tubular steel trellis and aluminum plates, 43 mm Marzocchi inverted fork, fully adjustable, monobracket, Sachs shock absorber also adjustable from anywhere, steering damper, Brembo brakes with radial ebrembo brakes with 4-piston radial calipers and 320 mm discs at the front, 2-piston calipers and 220 mm discs at the rear, 120 mm and 200 mm wide tires, and a dry weight of 168 kilos.

a definite but somewhat timid evolution for an MV-Agusta. The Dragster 800 RR does what it takes to capitalize on its aura and that of its family. There's plenty to enjoy, provided you accept the conditions of an Italian. Character, finances and surprises.
