Pending renewal of the F4, the 800 F3 is the only combat-ready sports bike in the MV-Agusta range - the Superveloce is almost as sporty, but less radical and more glamorous neo-retro. The latter takes on a new identity with the Rosso lineage. This is what the company calls its entry-level models in each family. The aim is to offer a more restrained price tag and the essentials of motorcycling. Less decoration, but no less potential.

The Rosso models all take the same approach: a big, bright red on an all-black body. This means we're no longer in the traditional gray / orange-red color scheme synonymous with the brand. This strong coloring doesn't tend to duplicate Ducati 's dominance, but rather Ferrari's. It pulsates in the eyes like blood in the arteries. Nothing to fear from the F3's sculptural lines. Even 10 years after its birth(in 675), the F3 is as delightful to look at as ever.

Over the years, it has evolved to keep pace with electronics and other dictates, the latest of which is Euro5, from which it absolves itself at the cost of a few modifications. Technicians have also taken the opportunity to improve a few parts. The 798 cm3 3-cylinder engine has lost a horsepower for E5, now delivering 147 hp at 13,000 rpm. Maximum torque remains unchanged, but is delivered a little earlier, with a peak of (almost) 9 mkg reached 500 rpm ahead, at 10,100 rpm.

The modifications are common to all Trepistone-equipped bikes. The factory applied a DLC coating to the valves, changed the main bearings, connecting rods and countershaft to reduce friction, replaced the injectors for more powerful models, updated the ECU, installed a new radiator 5% more efficient and reinforced the clutch. The exhaust system has been completely redesigned, to make the gases cleaner and better fill the power curves. The design has become more aggressive, with the 3 exhaust flutes becoming bevelled flints.

MV-Agusta F3 800 Rosso an MVis also a sport-tuned chassis. It evolves in small steps. The multi-adjustable inverted fork, Brembo M4 4-piston brake calipers, monobracket and steel trellis frame are all retained. However, the aluminum side plates will be revised to make them more rigid.

The electronics have also been updated. There's now cruise control, but who's going to use it? We'll be using the 3rd generation Up&Down shifter a lot more. A new sensor makes it more pleasant and more precise.
The F3 has finally replaced its LCD instrument panel with the TFT color display that is now found on all Varese models. A handsome 5.5-inch display that can communicate with the in-house MV Ride app. This allows you to set up your riding aids from your smartphone, install a navigation system thanks to a mirror function, record and share your outings...

Let's get serious again. You're not on an MV F3 to chat on social networks; you're on it to ride. Gas, good tires, watts, and you're off. The electronics are there at the back, with the installation of an inertial unit to improve efficiency thanks to positioning calculations in relative space. ABS becomes Cornering (now supplied by Continental), traction control is more precise, anti-wheeling evolves into wheeling control, and all this mess is supervised by 4 Driving Modes. Don't forget Launch Control, the Mobisat tracker, and the price.

An MV-Agusta is expensive. Or very expensive, as the case may be. But in the Rosso definition, it's slightly less expensive. This blood-red F3 800 costs 1,000 euros less than its predecessor.
This also leaves open the possibility of a better-equipped version in the near future. I wouldn't be surprised to see an F3 800 S with better decals, better brakes and a few racing parts.
