presentation of the F4 1000 2019

the end of the career for this generation of F4s, awaiting a successor announced as overpowering and innovative. But that's no reason to write it off, given the beauty and bestiality of this machine. It's taking its toll, almost imperceptibly. Even though it hasn't been redesigned for almost a decade. Admittedly, the engine has been upgraded and the electronics have been regularly enhanced. But the competition has not been idle in the meantime. As a result, it has to rely more and more on its charm and character. And hope; the redesign of the F4 has been postponed... until when? The development of a sports car puts a strain on a manufacturer's finances, and strangles the smaller ones. The current F4 will therefore continue its career for some time to come, in the volumes and within the limits that Euro4 standards will allow. Always on the ball and eternally superb, this hypersport can satisfy many a tracker. Take an F4 1000 RR, remove all the Öhlins equipment and half a dozen horsepower, change the rims, replace the Brembo M50 calipers with M4 jaws, and you're basically in the presence of a "basic" F4. A devaluing point of view? By no means! Because even without top-of-the-range suspension and a top-of-the-range chassis, Varese's hypersport offers plenty to enjoy, for almost the price of a Japanese model.

we won't go back over the F4's intoxicating design, which has been acclaimed for almost 20 years. We'll just dwell for a moment on the daytime running light bars placed on the leading edge of the forced-air intake. Discovery, admiration, sportiness, luxury, and the eyes stop on a series of names. Corsa Corta, MVICS, ELDOR. These are not the names of equipment manufacturers, but rather some of MV-Agusta's specific features. First, the engine, a particularly vigorous 195 hp 4-cylinder. It owes its name to the "short stroke" of its pistons. Enclosed, as usual, in a steel trellis frame attached to aluminum side plates, this block is both spirited and well-mannered, with a fine array of electronic assistants. The MVICS (Motor and Vehicule Integrated Control System) and ELDOR package are part of this wattage debauchery. In the silicon box, a ride by wire and multiple engine maps. There's a choice of Rain, Normal and Sport modes, plus a fourth, fully-configurable map. Depending on the mode chosen, the electronic control unit intervenes on throttle sensitivity, engine response and braking, torque and maximum rpm. Gyroscopes and accelerometers inform the control unit in real time, so that it can "feel" the type of riding, influencing the 8-position traction control and anti-wheeling. The shifter is also present on this F4, as is the Bosch 9MP race ABS.

while the machine does without a few high-end peripherals, this does not mean that the on-board hardware is simplistic. You'll find the eternally magnificent monobracket, a 50 mm-diameter Marzocchi fork and Sachs triple-adjustable shock absorber, forged rims and a lightened exhaust system.
Tempted? Don't try to resist: sporty, stiff, demanding, beautiful and deadly, the MV-Agusta F4 1000 remains one of the most seductive motorcycles in production.
