presentation of the 1200 V4 CR L.E. '588' 2024

Norton's 125-year limited editions are a good opportunity to discover models that are relatively unknown to the general public. Where do you think this V4 CR Limited Edition 588 got its name and stripe pattern? A victorious driver? A circuit symbol? Or rather... yes, the story of a very special machine: the NRS 588 and its rotary engine.

Very few manufacturers have ever taken on the challenge of the Wankel-type engine. More costly, greedy and polluting, it offers more power, less vibration and is lighter. Norton gave it a chance at the end of the '80s - and it won the Tourist Trophy again in 1992, 19 years after the brand's last victory on the Isle of Man.

The 1200 V4 CR takes up the black dress of this NRS 588, with a 125th anniversary logo on the seat cover. The roadster feel is enhanced by golden OZ rims and a minimalist exhaust system through which the V4 spits out almost as many decibels as it does horsepower. After all, the V4 CR is nothing more than the sporty V4 SV stripped down to its bare essentials. It's a fearsome machine, sulphurized by a 185-hp 4-cylinder engine, tubular aluminum frame, Öhlins suspension, Brembo M50 brakes and on-board electronics.

185 hp is a lot of power, and not for everyone. And this famous rotary engine, how much did it develop? Between 145 and 150 hp... for less than 600 cm3, whereas an 1100 was needed at the time to produce that many watts. The twin-cylinder wankel powered the Norton RC588, RCW588 and NRS588 to victorious races. Norton will also install it in a road-going sports bike: the F1, in the same color.
Only 125 Norton 125th Anniversary models will be produced. Each model will be produced to order.
