presentation of the 1200 V4 SV One of One 'RCW 588 replica' 2024
With no real novelties this year, Norton is not standing still. After the 125th anniversary special series, the brand is launching a "One of One" customization program. A further refinement for its already top-of-the-range motorcycles, with the possibility of choosing tints, stitching and the color of accessories. A well-stocked wallet and patience are essential. Allow a minimum of 4 months to receive your motorized jewel.
To illustrate this service, Norton presented its redesigned V4 SV sports bike. The first of the "One of One" models is immaculately finished in a symbolic color: "White Charger". For many, this is a nebulous term. For enlightened enthusiasts, the image of the Tourist Trophy lights up in their memories.
The year is 1992. Norton had been developing and racing a rotary engine motorcycle for some time. Riding the white RCW 588, a certain Steve Hislop brought the brand back to glory. He took victory in the Senior TT class, a first for the manufacturer since 1961 (but a habit for Hislop, with 11 TT victories, plus 2 British Superbike titles).
The race is considered one of the best in TT history. The V4 Sv is right to draw inspiration from it. The white livery of the time, influenced by sponsor Abus, is largely carried over, with the same race number as the RCW of the time. In place of the partners, the stickers veer towards the mysterious, with a look of ideograms. The filiation is there, but the mimicry is not complete.
The British hypersport salutes its love of the Tourist Trophy with the famous triskel that multiplies on the rear hull. In fact, it has put its wheels down there on several occasions. Let's draw attention to the icy cone symbol on the fairing sides. Because the V4 Sv is a delicacy?! No, more like lust. This icon is a reminder of the emergency modifications made to the racing bike of the time to cool the engine properly.
This Norton was not intended for sale. After a short stay at the Bike Shed Moto Show in London, she answered the call of the Isle of Man, where she stayed at the Victory Café during the TT. She will end her pilgrimage at the National Motorcycle Museum in Solihull, where she will spend peaceful, admiring moments alongside her illustrious ancestor, the RCW 588, of which she is a reflection.
The V4 Sv is available as standard, but not easily. Firstly, it costs a fortune. Secondly, since the French importer went into liquidation, you'll have to hang on to buy one. But if you succeed, you'll have the privilege of owning a superb machine, powered by a big 185 hp V4.
