presentation of the 961 Commando SF MK II 2016
norton has discreetly upgraded its 961 Commando to a Mark II version. At first glance, not many differences, but enough to flatter new enthusiasts. Benefiting from an overall improvement in finish, the Commando also benefits from an upgraded gearbox, a modified crankshaft, a new Nikasil treatment and Brembo monobloc brake calipers.
A superb vintage roadster with a name as classic as it is legendary, the Commando is presented here in a Sport Factoryversion. It retains the essentials of the Sport, but replaces its classic Öhlins fork with an inverted model from the same manufacturer. The radial Brembo brake calipers, monoblocs with a graphite finish since this MK 2 version, have also been fitted.
a sportier front end, certainly, but without overshadowing the Café Racer. There are no bracelets or racing jars for brake fluid, just handlebars and a DOT box. The soul of this Norton, its 961 cm3 twin-cylinder engine, blows here through black-painted exhausts, from the cylinder head to the end of the mufflers. An extra touch: the carbon windscreen.
Desirable in every way, the Norton 961 Commando Sport Factory vacillates between cult object and whim. With a starting price of over 23,000 euros, there's nothing reasonable about this machine. Just as well, it's what keeps us dreaming.
