presentation of the 1200 V4 SS 2019
Norton's sports car wants to be desirable. And it is. Produced in a limited series of 200 units, for a suffocatingly low price, the British hypersport thrills the senses under a misleading name: the V4 SS.
norton had its heyday with the Manx and, much later, the Commando. After many setbacks, the manufacturer now relies on its elitist and nostalgic side, with production focused on the 961 Commando. However, the brand has not forgotten its taste for competition. As evidenced by its recent and remarkable participation in the Tourist Trophy. The sports car presented here revives the sporting tradition. As its nickname suggests, it's powered by a V4... A big V4, with a cubic capacity of 1200 cm3 and 200 horsepower. Its cubic capacity meant it couldn't compete, but that didn't matter. The Norton will cultivate its exclusive and prestigious side to satisfy lovers of fine machines.
this Norton represents the most technologically advanced British sports car. It benefits from the experience accumulated by Norton through its involvement in the Tourist Trophy. In addition to its elegant, expressive design, the Norton 1200 V4 is also distinguished by its components. Its chassis features a tubular aluminum frame, an inverted fork and Öhlins shock absorber, a swingarm with a superb rim like the Ducati 1299 Panigale and MV-Agusta F4, and Brembo M50 monobloc brake calipers.
Let's take a closer look. Carbon is omnipresent, for the bodywork, tank and rims. Aircraft-grade aluminum (7020) is also used. The frame, for example, requires some 26 hours of high-quality polishing. Surprisingly, it weighs 3 kilos less than the frame of the racing machine. To keep the weight down without sacrificing efficiency, it uses the motor to ensure rigidity. The swingarm is a jewel in its own right: machined from a 70-kilo block, it weighs just 3.1 kg when completed.

As for the engine, Norton has not retained the Aprilia engine used for the proto entered in the TT. Instead, the British brand developed its own V4, in partnership with Ricardo. Compact, more open and more torquey thanks to its larger displacement, this distiller sends out its 200 hp at 12,500 rpm and its maximum torque of 13.2 mkg at 10,000 rpm. A racing kit can be fitted to increase the horsepower by 10 and lighten the machine by 8 kilos.
Like all modern sports machines, all these watts are closely monitored. With the right sensors and the IMU inertial unit, the Norton V4 SS is equipped with traction control, up&down shifter, anti-wheeling, anti-lock braking, anti-lock braking and anti-lock brake.anti-wheeling, cruise control, engine braking management, Launch Control and a data logging system. A level of electronic assistance worthy of the best sports cars in the segment. All controlled by a 7-inch TFT screen.
norton wanted more than just a motorcycle. A blend of sport, sensations, impressions and expression. The brand wants every owner to feel the kind of emotions experienced in front of an Aston-Martin, a McLaren or a Jaguar. The references speak for themselves. But the exclusivity doesn't stop there. Each model is handcrafted in the new Donington Hall factory. It's made with the finest materials to justify a substantial price tag.
