presentation of the Classic 500 Tribute Black 2020
It takes a certain emotion and a gesture of elegance to say goodbye to a motorcycle whose longevity is exceptional. The Bullet, or in this case the Classic, will never leave the Indian factory again... but not without one last special edition: the Tribute Black.
The history of Royal-Enfield cannot be summed up by the Bullet alone. This motorcycle has become a veritable institution, so much so that it represents the brand in all its beauty and exclusivity.
The combination of black and gold always makes a tasteful, upscale statement, whatever the bike or the era. For this Classic, the bike seems to have soaked in the night; with shiny moments and matte moments. Then it enhances its presence with milled cooling fins around the engine, gold piping on the wheel rims, mudguards, rear covers and tank. The stripes are hand-painted by the Kumar brothers, in keeping with tradition and craftsmanship.
The 500 Tribute Black is a special, limited edition. A limited edition of 1,000 units will be produced in Europe. A plaque will authenticate each model, with its serial number, the name of the factory where it was produced and a short epitaph signifying the end of production of this icon.
For each of these models, attention is paid to the equipment. The bike gets a pair of leather comfort seats with topstitching, a machined oil cap, new mirrors and a set of military saddlebags.
It's a charming blend of nostalgia and courtesy. You'll appreciate it at every stop, then enjoy the frugal pleasure of driving it. The single-cylinder engine peaks at 27 hp at 5,250 rpm. No need to look for speed. You'll get the feel of the engine as you hum along, ride with your nose to the wind and languorously cover the miles. And with fuel consumption down to the daisy level (which you'll enjoy picking up, that's the spirit), you can ride into the evening before thinking about refuelling.
The first Bullet appeared in 1931. The name lived on for 89 years. The version that has come down to us dates from 1949. Of course, there have been a few changes along the way... but they've been minimal. The ancestor and the descendant seem to date from the same decade. But the time has come to pass the torch, with style.
