presentation of the GSX-8S 800 édition Kevin Schwantz 2023
A specialist in Suzuki special series, the Italian importer presents a limited edition GSX-8S roadster in honor of Kevin Schwantz. The American rider, former GP star and 1993 500 world champion, is a Suzuka icon. This latest gesture in his honor could not be more appropriate.
The brand has already dedicated several special models to him, including the GSX-R 1000 Pepsi edition in 2018 and the Gex Legend edition in 2021. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of his title, five GSX-8S models will be decorated with the RGV500 #34, the bike on which he won the world title. Enthusiasts will recognize the colors of the famous cigar manufacturer Lucky Strike - also the inspiration for the MV-Agusta Lucky Explorer trail bikes.
At the same time, Suzuki is unveiling a Swift (car) and a DF200AP boat engine, also Schwantz replica. Each machine will be numbered, signed by Schwantz and supplied with a certificate of authenticity.
When Kevin raced a GP500, his bike had no traction control or electronic assistance. Just a V4 2-stroke engine that had to be tamed by hand; with almost 170 horsepower and only 130 kilos on the scales.
Three decades later, the GSX-8S squeezes 83 hp out of its 776 cm3 twin and regulates it with 3 riding modes, 3-stage Traction Control + off and a bi-directional shifter.
Despite the years, the number 34 is still one of Suzuki's darlings. This new limited series proudly demonstrates this. It's a pity Suzuki didn't offer it a wider distribution. Especially since this color is undoubtedly the most pleasing of those worn by the GSX-8S. On the other hand, there are no gifts or bonuses apart from the decoration - and for the asking price, that stings!
