presentation of the GSF 600 Bandit N et S 2004

the 600 Bandit is a real jackpot for Suzuki, making it one of the best-selling motorcycles on the market. For 2000, you don't change a winning team, you improve it. Although refined with a more modern look, the overall appearance doesn't change radically, except on the S version, where the attractive, slightly aggressive fork-head adds personality and highly effective protection. The new, streamlined frame houses the same oil-cooled 4-cylinder engine of the previous-generation GSX-R. It gains 4 bhp more than the old Bandit, and has been slightly reworked to provide more mid-range vitality.

test by Renald :

looking for a quiet ride? Or a little adrenalin? Look no further, the Bandit is here to satisfy your desires. It's very easy to handle, ideal for making progress without burning the midnight oil, and all for a very reasonable budget.

Suzuki GSF 600 Bandit N et S 2004 - 1Suzuki GSF 600 Bandit N et S 2004 - 1

engine-wise, the bandit lives up to its name, delivering decent power, especially if you're just starting out. The 78 horsepower of its good old air/oil-cooled 4-cylinder engine will never cease to amaze you. Hollow at low revs due to its slight lack of torque (a small handicap cleverly remedied by Suzuki on the 2005 model), the Bandit shows its other face at 6,000rpm, when the thrust arrives and ends up stretching out quite hard until the red zone perched at 12,000rpm.

it's clear that speed isn't its vocation (even if it can tow you up to 220 Km/h with the original, 240 with a devil magnum), and the same goes for the arsouille. The Bandit's shock absorber is stiff and tends not to cope well with bumpy roads (even slightly), and cornering can be tricky with a lack of experience. As you can see, short rides and long trips will be more enjoyable, but a few modifications wouldn't go amiss. A windscreen or a fork head would be less tiring for the rider, especially on freeways where, after 120 km/h, it's hard to resist in an upright position. Vibrations can be felt at around 150 km/h, and the saddle is quite hard, so a comfort seat would not be a luxury - after 200 km, you and your passenger can't feel your buttocks any more. As for the brakes, they don't have much bite, but they brake very well, and without pulling too hard on the handle.

design-wise, the Bandit doesn't look aggressive or furious, but it does have the beauty of a traditional roadster. A small dose of chrome, an engine in the same tone, a fully painted frame and the good old round headlight at the front.

but if that's not enough for you, there's always the option of further embellishment, like this one. After all, one of the peculiarities of a roadster is that it's totally predisposed to tuning.
The instrument panel remains in the traditional spirit, with 2 analog meters for speed and engine rpm, a digital dial with 2 partial trips, a mileage totalizer and the time. The basic indicator lights are located in the middle of the dials (turn signals, neutral, full beam and oil sight glass).

as far as maintenance is concerned, it's best to do it yourself as much as possible, i.e. an oil change and filter every oil filter every 6,000 kms (do it yourself for 45 euros, compared with 140 euros for Suzuki), replace the spark plugs every 12,000 kms, change the air filter every 18,000 kms and adjust the valve clearances every 24,000 kms.

the Bandit remains a very good roadster, with a reputation not only for being puncture-proof, but also for being easy to drive.the Bandit is still a very good roadster that not only has a reputation for being puncture-proof, but is also one of the best bikes for beginners, with great riding pleasure, a decent budget and all at an unbeatable price.

Vozim moj prvi Bandit , posle 14 prethodnih, raznih kubikaža i stilova. Bandit je jednostavno, devojka za sve i uz to odlično izgleda sa svih strana.
Kupite ga, sigurno ćete imati osmeh na licu...

Excellent bike when you make the necessary modifications. I had Avia hoses fitted and a comfort seat made for my 2004 Suz' granny. Now it works more than well. Puncture-proof engine, beautiful bike to look at and really fun to ride. Rating : 4/5

I started riding late in life on a 125, then decided to take the A2 license in 2022. The Bandit represented for me what a motorcycle was when I saw one when I was young... So I bought a red 2000 Bandit with the engine cover and a DEVIL pot that sings so well! Even though it's limited to 34hp and is criticized for being a bit heavy, I find it a pleasure to ride or pilot, depending on the situation ... Admittedly, the braking isn't the most reassuring (when you've learned on a CB 500 with ABS ...) but coming from the 125, that didn't bother me. I do my own routine maintenance; in any case, this is a bike with a reputation for reliability, and it certainly is! Rating : 4/5

I started out on a motorcycle in 1969, when I wanted to get back on a cruiser-type bike, but my feet were too far forward, which made me feel unbalanced, especially at very low speeds and when manoeuvring. To keep things reasonable, I bought a Bandit 600 S from 2003, which made all the difference: agile, engine running like clockwork. Minor faults, rear brake lacks power, on bad roads, the front end is sensitive to the slightest bump or bad surface. I almost bought a more powerful 1200, but I ride in Quebec, so I stay calm! This is my 3rd Suzuki in 53 years Rating : 4/5

My tenth bike, I'm 62 and I was looking for a lighter bike, my eighth exceptional bike was a Honda 600 rr, I wanted to go downmarket with a Mash 400, don't make that mistake, really no Chinese fittings to be avoided, today I have a 600 bandit, I was afraid of the weight but frankly it's super well balanced, you don't feel it and it's a great machine, just great! Rating : 5/5
This is my 5th bike after a 4-year break. It seems very reliable (65,000Km and almost no valve clearance). I'm taking off one star for the very soft rear brakes. I'm going to upgrade it to an avia hose Rating : 4/5

I'd like to buy a Bandit 600s and I'm a young A2 license holder. Is it comfortable to drive in reverse? Rating : 5/5
French @the_bigdim
Hi Tony,

Yes, even with the original seat, the passenger is in a good position and doesn't see the miles go by. It's a supple bike if you ride it that way, of course. If you invest in a comfort seat, it'll be royal.

Superb bike (compatible with the new A2 license, reformed in 2013, by clamping), light and good protector (I had the 2002 S version, the year the fuel indicator on the speedometer appeared). Reasonable fuel consumption; over 200km on a full tank, without the reserve warning light even activating or me having to switch the tap to "RES"

A few minor age-related faults: the electric starter button (on the handlebars) is oxidized and the rear brake contactor lug is also oxidized, but as a whole; for the few months I had it, it was a joy to ride, and with the MICEHLIN road 5 tires fitted, it's a pleasure to ride, and a hell of a safe ride too! It even saved me from a fall on an icy road strewn with packed earth and rubble one winter's night; launched at 90km/h; no less!

Definitely a bike to get your hands on!

French Saeba Model 2003
I just bought one. I was looking for a cheap and reliable bike. I'm very happy with it. I was surprised by its handling and how quickly I got to grips with it. With all the comments about its weight, I was expecting something heavy, but not at all, and it's my 6th bike (sv, GSXR, GSR, kle, klr)

Access to the top of the engine is easy (for valve clearance) and there are no pellets to change. It has 74,000 km and runs very well

For me, its faults are :
Its frame is susceptible to rust if not maintained
The lack of fuel injection (I know some people prefer carburetors... I don't)
And the ugly dashboard. The bandit 1200's is also minimalist, but nicer
Ah... and there's a disease... the Neutral indicator that goes out when the engine heats up.

I have a '99 Bandit 600 with a total ojd of 57,000km. It never flinches!

Basic maintenance that's easy to do yourself (oil change, oil filter change, air filter cleaning, chain tension...)
That's a good thing if you're the least bit curious and want to take good care of your bike.

I use it almost daily in the city and on country roads. It's versatile. A little heavy for maneuvering, but the weight is forgotten as soon as you pass the 1st gear. Very well balanced.

Good chassis overall, forks a bit soft when you get a bit carried away, but that's rarely the case for me. I'm a rider's rider.

Performance is better, but for starters it's ideal, and even better afterwards. Soft up to 5000, some engine vibration up to 6000 which encourages you to either rev it up or change gear.

Inexpensive insurance. I'm getting 32E a month for comprehensive with a bodily injury accident not at fault for 9 years of driving.

It's a great bike!!!!

Very good bike, in the 4 years I've had it, it's taken me everywhere at just about any pace. Admittedly, it's only a 600, so you can't expect much with two people, but it's good enough to start with. It's much less plastic than some, and very, very sturdy. Mine has 70,000 km and can still do the same. The weight isn't noticeable, and it's a very well-balanced bike. Fuel consumption is very reasonable, hovering around 5l in grandad mode, and 6l most of the time. Not bad for carburetors!

Reliable and inexpensive to maintain, with very respectable performance (240 on the odometer).

Hello,I own a 2002 Bandit N.It's a perfect motorcycle for beginners. It lacks torque,so don't hesitate to downshift before overtaking. The original exhaust is entirely in stainless steel, which is more aesthetic than other motorcycles with rusty manifolds. The meters, headlight shells and side covers are made of good quality chromed plastic.Without windshields, you need to have good neck muscles or your head in the handlebars. Hi Damien, I've got an A license so I'm not restricted and I've got comprehensive insurance and I don't know which option to choose, plus I'm paying 63â'¬ a month! I was uninsured for 3 years because I lived in the city, so I didn't need a vehicle. As for the A2 license, ask your driving school, but logically you should know... Get insurance quotes on the Internet for several bikes to see if you can be insured, and choose your bike according to the insurance! It's easier at first Rating : 4/5

French kenny
Hi, although I'm only taking my A2 license, I love this bike so I've done some research and no, you can't take this bike...
because according to the new A2 license since January 2013, the power of the motorcycle (full) can not result from the clamping of a vehicle developing more than twice this power (clamped).
so you can only have motorcycles from 2012 to 2014. Because the old clamping system doesn't give you access to almost any used bike... which is stupid in the sense that your bike would end up being less powerful than current clamped bikes.
Even if the police couldn't see the real power of your bike, be patient, they're in the process of revising this famous story about real power being more than double the bridled power, so we'd have access to 35hp bikes again..
so be patient, my friend, it's just a matter of a month or two

@tof. In theory Kenny is right... but in reality, insurers all accept to insure this kind of vehicle. If it had a 48hp limit, you could drive it, but if it had a 34hp limit, you couldn't. That's the nonsense of the law ^^. But insurers aren't fooled, and accept to insure anyway (I speak from experience, I have a 34hp Bandit 600, and all the insurers I've contacted have accepted). 1 With you Lolo.

Motorcyclist since 2004, the 600 bandit was my first bike.
i then had 6 other bikes (ranging from the 500 Tmax to the 1300 CB via the Yam FZ1).
After taking a 2-year break from motorcycling following the arrival of my daughter, I've just got back on a 600 bandit S and the pleasure is still there.
It's true that the chassis isn't a model of its kind, that the brakes are outdated, but then for the look, the revs, and the big 4 Cyl Air/oil, Rhaaa good vibessssss.

Y\'a pas je suis amoureux de cette moto indestructible...

French Model 2004
i think the Bandit 2 still has a lot going for it, apart from its natural charm with its chrome accents, and its rather imposing size, making it a motorcycle in a class of its own that's less plastic and rikiki than the new models... It's true that the engine needs a lot of work, and compared with others it's less powerful, but there again, that's what makes it so charming. The Sachs engine is a myth in itself, an ex-sport sprinter who's now become a marathon runner with age. The chassis remains sound and fairly limited for sporty riding, but it's still going strong these days, when radar and police controls are intensifying... And it's precisely with a bike like the Bandit, capable of leisurely rides and raising the pace when needed, that doesn't push you to vice, but provides maximum pleasure for an unbeatable price, that the choice of reason imposes itself.... I'll end by saying that riding a bandit is a philosophy, and that all the sporty roadsters we come across today exist thanks to or because of the 600 bandit ... Rating : 4/5
