presentation of the STRATOSPHERE 1100 2005
at Motoplanete, we're not in the habit of talking about concept bikes, except in rare cases (future marketing, crazy machine, extraterrestrial machine...). But when it came to the Stratosphere, I couldn't pass it up.
nostalgic fans and enthusiasts steeped in motorcycling culture will immediately recognize in the design an emblematic machine of the early '80s: the Katana. Like the Katana, the Stratosphere seems (is?) too far ahead of its time. Its remarkably fluid lines bring it into the 2050 era. As you approach it, you'll want to caress it from the tip of the saddle to the slender turn signals. From the front, let's not be afraid... but it's better to be used to visiting the inside of a light-bulb radio. Right behind, the dashboard is high-tech, like Suzuki prototypes like the B-King.
what will make us all fall in love is the choice of engine. The Stratosphere returns to a genre that has been used in alas homeopathic doses: the in-line 6-cylinder. The most representative models of this architecture were the Honda CBX 1000 and Kawasaki Z 1300; their owners' eyes sparkle as they tell you their stories at the handlebars. This 1100 cm3 multi-cylinder is incredibly compact, so much so that you could imagine it in a sports bike. With modern technology, such a mill would offer extraordinary flexibility and goosebump-inducing revs in every gear.
Will it be a demonstration to make us dream without a future, as with the B-King? Or is it a new machine concept for the end of the decade? Come on, Mz Suzuki, get that 6-cylinder out.
