presentation of the DL 250 V-STROM 2019
Suzuki's trail bikes, whether GT or urban, are known as V-Strom. Under this name live two machines with excellent performance, striking design and benchmark engines. The 650 plays to the rhythm of the SV's twin, the 1000 pulses to the rumble of the TL's block. Big memories for many.
Two bikes? Sorry, three now. To surprise a lively sector, that of the 250/300. Small, singular, massive, the 250 V-Strom surprises. After sports bikes and roadsters, the small-displacement category, which Asian markets love so much, is now home to road-going trail bikes. But what is this mini V-Smurf thinking?
There's nothing pejorative about this sobriquet, and it suits the smallest of Hamamatsu's trails quite well. Small in size but cunning in action.
In fact, there are a few hallmarks: the incisive beak, the cyclops-shaped headlamp and the all-track styling. On form...... It's hard to be objective with this big block of light, protruding like a wart. Design lines don't run on the 250 V-Strom; they seem to stop, to hesitate. The silhouette is far less airy than that of its siblings. On the other hand, it gives an impression of sturdiness, as if the machine could do the work in Australian mines. Fortunately, the design is more attractive and qualitative than that of the 125 DF-E, a former contender for the job.

One of the strong points of this machine is its range. With its small appetite and 17-liter fuel tank, Suzuki claims no less than 500 km on a full tank. These figures need to be put into perspective with real-world driving. But even then, the gauge shouldn't go down too quickly.
It will make its presence felt on the dashboard, along with the bar graph, gear engaged, speed, trips, clock, etc... The instrumentation is familiar from the GSX-S 125, GSX-R 125 and 250. Inspired by the 1000 GSX-R.
For everyday use, the mini V-Strom is keen to demonstrate its practicality. To this end, a bubble completes the rather massive front end for protection. An 8.5-kilo load capacity is standard, a 12V socket is fitted to the left of the dashboard, and Suz has installed attachments for hanging suitcases. A slight refinement that doesn't even come as standard on the 650 and 1000 V-Strom.
There's no fuss about the chassis, which is easily satisfied with a steel frame, conventional fork, monoshock and 2 petal brake discs combined with ABS. We can already imagine the desire to splash mud in front of the forest with a few machines of the same ilk. What do the Kawasaki Versys-X 300 and Benelli 251 TRK think?

How hard can it be to make a lightweight trail bike in this century?
This bike has a ridiculous amount of travel, and the ground clearance is necessarily low. 17-inch wheel... A scooter in disguise?!
A Trail is 150 kg max, with plenty of travel and range, and if possible with a look that doesn't remotely resemble an enduro, let alone a GT! Rating : 1/5 Respond to JP
