this famous slogan (illustrated by Peugeot in the '90s) perfectly sums up the philosophy behind the new Tiger. as the 3rd and penultimate model to be equipped with the big 1050 cm3 3-cylinder, Hinckley's trail bike is taking advantage of its new berlingot to remake itself... and everything else with it!
the Tiger 955i was a large, quality trail bike, but one that was shunned by the public. After all, isn't getting off the beaten track a vocation for a trail bike?
And it does. SPORT! This is the main idea behind Triumph's new "Tiger". The silhouette exudes this character trait, from the "mandibulated" fork head to the LED taillight. The bike's appearance quickly puts you in doubt: is it still a road-going trail bike, or is it a beast of a ride? Judge for yourself: 115 hp in the vilo, 17" wheels in 120 and 180, not really mixed tires, an inverted fork with radial brake calipers, a reinforced swingarm swingarm (from the Daytona 675), bleeding eyes, separate brake fluid reservoir, no more handlebar handguards, tighter suspension travel... It would seem that the Tiger has given up the hunt for the Varadero, and is now looking to the Multistrada and other big road-going supermotards. Am I exaggerating? But even the fuel tank is 4 liters smaller. Autonomy won't improve.
but take into account the 17 kg less dry weight (which is enormous), the 10 horsepower and torque gains, and the frankly optimized chassis, and you've got yourself one hell of a toy. Perhaps still too marginal, especially to compete with the R 1200 GS, but certainly more intoxicating than the previous model (which didn't disappoint). The charm and enthusiasm of the Tri-patte, although toned down on this model, have enough arguments to slap many a competitor in the face. Except perhaps Benelli's nasty 1130...
let's not be too hasty in pigeonholing the machine as fun and frivolous. Triumph is committed to the reputation and performance of its big dog. I ride about 10,000 kms a year, between Sunday rides, long trips and... track.
It's great fun for two on a relaxed Sunday, with the engine's torque working wonders to get us smoothly out of the twists and turns of Ardennes roads.
Long-haul vacations are a breeze, and whether you're passing through the Alps or surfing the autobahns, it keeps up the pace...
Tighten the frame (the adjustments are very effective) ...and go and play with the 'R' ... to their great surprise...
I also own a Triumph Daytona 995 i...the mechanical linkage is obvious...All that was missing on the chassis was the mono arm...and that's now in the 2014 model.
So you'll have understood that I'm particularly in love with my young mistress...

In 3 months, 2 breakdowns (electronics then a sticking clutch), ending with an accident and a bent bike.
Otherwise, a very good bike: good engine with character, nice sound, very good roadholding and maneuverability in tight bends, comfort including in duet, good braking.
I must have been unlucky with those 2 breakdowns. But the accident turned me off the brand a bit.
I bought (after a 2-day test ride that convinced me) a new Honda 1200 Crosstourer because the dealer took back my Triumph that crashed and gave me great conditions. I haven't got my new bike yet...
I'm still tempted by the Speed Triple ... but it lacks passenger protection and comfort.
