presentation of the 955i Tiger 2006

the Tiger has long been present in the big trail-GT category, with technical and aesthetic choices that are marginal but full of charm and quality. With its bulging eyes and jungle decor, the Tiger stands out from its rivals. The very classy and complete dashboard - so British - the big comfortable seat adjustable to 3 positions, warning and socket for electrical accessories... little things that are proving indispensable and that Triumph brings as standard to the Tiger (the competition would do well to take inspiration from this).
In 2004, Triumph made a number of minor modifications to the chassis: spoke rims were replaced by spoke rims. The wheelbase is reduced by 13 mm, the caster is reduced from 92 mm to 87.9 mm, and the rake is tightened from 28° to 25.8°. The front and rear suspensions have also been revised from within. All this enhances the machine's agility and potential.

a short detour on the freeway doesn't bother the adventurer, but it does bother the rider, who will have to make do with decent but limited protection for the upper part of the torso. For longer trips, you'll need to install a high bubble. Fortunately, comfort is just as good. The chassis, which derives a large part of its rigidity from the load-bearing engine, proves to be sound and particularly easy to handle. The suspension system, which can twist and turn on small roads, allows the Tiger to maintain a good dose of comfort while providing sovereign, efficient handling. The front brake jaws are biting and powerful, but not very progressive, requiring a tempered and precise grip. The English brand's Achilles' heel, the rear brake is not the best on its bikes - and the Tiger is no exception.

the soul of this Tiumph (and of Triumph) is its engine. The three-legged mill, which also powers the Daytona and Speed Triple, subtly blends the qualities of the twin and the 4-cylinder: torque and character at low and mid-range speeds, then length and power. As a result, the range of applications is vast. It's also very smooth, so you don't need to use the gearbox; a pity: it's a delight to handle. To make matters worse, the engine lends itself equally well to touring and more muscular driving. And yet, despite its qualities, it sells far less than its competitors. Triumph is suffering from a cruel lack of image and recognition. Particularly in the face of BMW and its famous R 1200 GS, star of the segment, and above all benefiting from a "rally-raid-Dakar" notoriety that could not be more rewarding.

French Model 2006
I was already familiar with the machine, having driven an 885 for 2 years ... Paris - Crit'Air obliged me to change machine! On a tight budget, I started with a 900 TDM full GT in great condition ... yuck!!! Every moment on the gearbox ... it couldn't last! I found my 955i in a provincial sales depot for €2,200 ... one of the few registered in 2007! That's right: a 2-yellow sticker!
This machine is among the best motorcycles I've ever ridden ... and at 53 I've ridden a bunch of them since my Yamaha 50 RD ... (sorry 'piloted) ... if not the wear of the pads / discs at the front ... what happiness!
Ah, and the guys who say that the pot heats up the passenger's thighs ... well, not on mine: you put your hands on it after driving 100 km! In town maybe ...
Long live three-legged bikes, the future of motorcycling!

Hello major difference between an AT and a tiger please Rating : 5/5
French Model 2006
Hello ,

I have a 2006 model.

I've had other trails before this Tiger. ( Suzuki DR750, Africa Twin 750 ) .

But since I got it, I can't stop riding.
It's a treat every time, whatever the route or type of road.
And the three-cylinder Triumph is simply a delight.
You have to try it at least once in your life to understand.

-Very good reliability, no worries since I've had it (6 years now)...approaching 100,000 and no worries for the moment. Let's service it at the recommended intervals. I go to an independent mechanic who knows Triumphs well.
-Handling: I can't fault it at all (no doubt due to the fact that I've had other trails before).
-Impeccable comfort, even for two. Road irregularities (holes, bumps, etc.) are well filtered out. (It's not an Enduro either, so don't confuse everything).
- Correct fuel consumption: I clocked up 400 km at a cool, leisurely pace on one trip.
- Luggage: sufficient volume to carry a lot of stuff (my wife is happy when we go on a trip).

It's true that it has a few faults, but what's the motorcycle that doesn't?

You could criticize its looks, but I don't give a damn about that. When I'm driving, I don't look at my bike, I look at the road ....

I sincerely think I'd buy another one, because second-hand bikes are very affordable, and represent very good value for money, for anyone planning to ride one for a while, or to travel solo or as a duo.

One last thing, I tried out a German GS (you know what I mean) ... I'm sorry, but I just wasn't crazy about it. So I'll keep my Tiger! And I'll probably get another one later.

Bonne route à tous aux guidons de vos motos.

French Philderire Model 2003
I started with a BMW F650GS after my driving test, then discovered the Tiger 885i in 2001, two 955i and have remained faithful to this machine ever since. Attempt at youth with the purchase of an 800XC, kept for a year. Lack of life, too linear, bored and bought a 955i again in 2003.
Nothing can match this torque, this ease of driving, this happiness.
Thank you Triumph, and don't lose your soul with all the electronics. Let your fabulous engines live!

when I read your reviews, it really pisses me off ,,,,,
in the MINUS you put "lack of liveliness in sporty driving" ,,,,,
YOU HAVE DRIVEN IT ????? I doubt it to say that ,,,, find me a trail that lives like this one ,,,,,,,
you say it picks up low, pushes hard, etc., etc., a bit contradictory
a moins que vous compariez la tiger avec une daytona ,,,?? alors alors je serais ok avec vous ,,,,, mais qui les comparait ????

Riding a Daytona 955, I had the opportunity to test this beautiful beast on the forgotten roads of the Jura, and I have to admit I was blown away by this trail bike's capabilities
Smooth, fast engine, pleasant sound, royyyyal comfort (especially when descending from the Dayto...) allowing you to eat up kilometers until you're blue in the face, agility to match, in short, the complete opposite of the messy camel I'd imagined
No doubt a great mount for fetching bread, going for rides, traveling far and wide, dabbling in the ropes, trying a bit of trail riding, treating yourself to a bit of originality with an exotic mount - in short, a real Swiss Army Knife
Conclusion: definitely worth a try, especially before you blow 12 months' savings on a German (take a look at the second-hand models...).

Mine is from 2004 and has spoked wheels. It has 80,000 km with no problems apart from a classic failure on the three-legged starter freewheel (not cheap to repair!). More on the site..

As for the rest, I don't regret this bike, it's comfortable and reliable and the engine is great. I'm going to keep it and hope to do 150,000km with it

There are very few reviews of this bike, and that's a shame, because this Tiger doesn't fall short of the mark!

The mill needs no introduction... Torque, length, suppleness, sobriety. Doesn't vibrate. All good stuff!

The chassis, at least the one with spoke rims (revised geometry compared to the spoked version), lends itself to all riding styles. Even the pif-paf are linked without a second thought. The brakes are very good, even the rear! All you have to do is fit the right pads

Comfort? Very good! Road imperfections and potholes are absorbed very well, without any softness or excessive hardness. All in all, a very good compromise. And the protection, with the high bubble and hand guards, means you can stay wedged at 140 for hours on end if you like. It's the saddle that will invite you to take a break after 1h30-2h on average. But with a leather futal, the problem disappears!

Maintenance is carried out every 10 mil, and the saddle doesn't need much. For example, the rear pads have held 16 mil and there's still plenty of room at the front; the rear tire 15 mil and the front already has 18 mil and will do 20 (Anakee tire). Daily fuel consumption between 5 and 5.5 L. From 6 to 7 when spinning..

Reliability is a given. No problems in 3 years and 18,000 km! The finish is also very satisfactory

There are a few shortcomings, wouldn't you say?
Yes, the clutch cable is a bit manly and tiring in town, the height of the machine is designed for a stature of 1m80 or more, there's no storage space under the saddle (but I have the model with suitcases and top case), 2 hours of disassembly to change a bulb (but fortunately this doesn't happen every day) and that's about it!

Last but not least, you can find them second-hand with less than 25 mil for the same price as a BM 1150 GS with 75 mil, or more, on the odometer! It's a sobering thought, especially as your Tiger won't be stolen as easily as the BM! All right, it's harder to resell, but I don't mind, because I'm keeping mine!

Bonne route à tous.

21,000 km. on a used 2003, 6 of which were for me, very satisfied, only 209 but excellent average, ideal for going to work, shopping, agile in traffic, starts at a quarter of a turn, carries everything, even my wife who snoozes at 180. Riding for 4 hours at 8,000 rpm in 32-degree weather is no problem, and on Quebec's rough roads it's ideal. Rating : 5/5

a bike I tried last year at a Triumph dealership
it's a hell of an engine, which blows you away over the whole rev range.sumptuous noise (aaahh the 3-cylinder ...).but beware, it's also a licence trap, as you quickly reach speeds that are forbidden in town and on the freeway.put yourself in gear 6 on the freeway and open it up wide: not only do the handlebars rip your arms off, but you also lock the speedometer (220) in the blink of an eye.in short, it's a fighter plane disguised as a trail bike. I love the way it looks, and it's nicer than a Varadero. The only problem is the price (over 10,000 euros), which isn't cheap at all, and I don't think they sell many of them given the price
finally, is it reliable in everyday use? (these bikes have a bad reputation)
and finally, I think it's the "impossible to resell" bike par excellence.or if you want to sell it, you have to sell it, just so you don't get married to it!
but that's a shame, because this Tiger is terribly attractive!
