presentation of the 1050 SPEED TRIPLE 100 S 2016

The Speed Triple is back on the hunt. It has to be, because these ballsy roadsters no longer have anything to envy the hypersports, happily drawing on the same bank of components for engines, chassis and electronics. Triumph was tired of its dark, enigmatic, shadowy roadster no longer being a feared leader of the clan. The new Speed Triple, now called the 100 S, has undergone a major overhaul to bring it up to date. It's not enough to change its personality, but it's enough to offer the rider much more.

A Speed 1050 is recognizable from near and far. This new version is not fundamentally different from the others. Except, and this will always be a subject of controversy, for the headlights. The look has evolved once again, with the two headlights becoming more oval. Could this be the first step towards a return to round headlights?
The radiator scoops have been restyled, the mirrors have been moved to the handlebar ends, and the fuel tank, rear section and double-decker seat have been subtly updated. The Speed has been modernized without upsetting established codes. We still appreciate its single-arm design, under-seat exhausts (even if the fashion has faded), nervous and muscular profile, and new little touches. What do you think of the Triumph logo embossed on the edge of the passenger seat, or the tapered all-LED turn signals? Well, we've lost the engine cover; optional, or standard on the R.
Oh yes, something else has changed on the Speed Triple. It's an air intake right in the middle of the forehead. Do we need to breathe in the 3-cylinder?!

Not just a little. The 1050 cm3 British block has had to adapt to Euro4 standards and set out on a quest for performance. Changes were made to the intake system, cylinder head, crankshaft, combustion chambers, piston design... In all, Hinckley has made no fewer than 104 modifications to the mechanics of its flagship roadster. The result is noticeable, with power increased to 140 hp. Triumph claims to have worked on the torque to get the best out of the engine at low and medium revs. What's more, its 3-cylinder architecture gives it such a distinctive roundness and availability that you'll remain spellbound. Its technical modifications are designed to make it even more lively and sporty.
In addition to a 10% reduction in fuel consumption, a narrower radiator, a limited-slip clutch and new exhausts offering 70% more flow, the Speed Triple 100 S receives a Ride-by-Wire system, a new ECU and a choice of 5 fuel injection maps. Multiple ways to tackle the road, depending on mood, terrain or weather. The maps are distributed as follows: Road, Rain, Sport, Track and Rider. The latter can be customized by the user. The others select the most appropriate values for traction control, ABS intervention and throttle response.

The Speed Triple renews its confidence in its tubular aluminum perimeter frame, derived from the old 955 Daytona. The fork is a 43 mm Showa inverted, and the shock absorber comes from the same manufacturer; both are fully adjustable. For more demanding riders, the R version features Öhlins components. The Brembo brakes come from the R, with attractive radial-mount monobloc calipers on 320 mm tracks.
The British streetfighter is back in action. Now a 1050 Speed Triple 100 S, Triumph's rebel machine is back in the spotlight, making its mark among the Monster, Z, GSX-S and other big-hearted machines. Electronic assistance has been added to bring the Speed up to the level of the segment, with ABS and traction control deactivated for sportier riders. And the Speed has always had that little something that sets it apart from the rest.
