presentation of the 1200 Bonneville T 120 Chrome édition 2023
The Bonneville is the Triumph that has had the most special series. We've lost count, so let's mention just a few: the Steve MCQueen, the 50th Anniversary, the Bud Ekins, the recent (2022) Gold Line, and the latest addition to a flamboyant collection: the Chrome.
Needless to say, this is the essential element of this edition ;-). Whether in a dealership or on the street, you'll soon see the brilliance of these English cars in the corner of your eye, or even in the retina for some of them. As with the Gold Line, this collection is only here for a year, so it's here to show off the fine work it's been given.
Like the other Chrome Editions, the tank is the center of attention. Her cheeks are covered in Meriden blue, which connoisseurs will recognize from the competition's glory days: one of the Gulf tanker's colors, usually associated with "Tangerine" orange. These two make-up touches are there to enhance the brilliance of the large chrome sheet. For the pilot, all you have to do is look down to appreciate a huge silver mirror.
The whole thing is more than pleasing to the eye, and could give rise to nightmares at the slightest dust....
The first trace, the smallest insect, the tiniest smudge will instantly be perceived as a pestilence on this piece of finish polished to excellence. Just think, a guy in the workshop spent over 5 hours on the tank... 5 hours MORE than for a standard model.
In that time, around 3 hours were spent hand polishing, then 1 hr 40 for chrome plating, then a long stage of masking resin application, priming, paint application, a bit more polishing, multiple inspections throughout the process - with all that, it's certainly the Bonneville's most pampered component.
The T120 is one of the most charming bikes of the neo-retro movement. It's also available in 900 format, in both standard and Chrome Edition; but the 1200 offers a much more pronounced élan with its deeply stuffed twin-cylinder. Only 80 hp, but plenty of punch right from the low revs with its 10.7 mkg of torque projected at 3,500 rpm.
The Bonnie blends the old with spoked wheels, a neat appearance (vintage flat seat, fake carburetors, fork gussets, sausage pot, round headlight and 60s face) and technology. As evidenced by its disconnectable traction control, ABS, cruise control, two driving modes, electronic throttle, LED signature, USB socket (under the seat) and maintenance intervals. Old English-lovers will understand
