presentation of the 750 Weekender Special Edition 2020
What does Ural have in store for us this autumn? A new limited series, as every year, with a clear aim: to make a name for itself. For this Weekender SE edition, the Russian manufacturer is bold.
Not in substance, but in form. Ural vehicles are used to showing off their Cold War credentials, or their patriotic symbolism. The Side Weekender sweeps all that aside with acid dresses that would look better on a Ducat' Scrambler.
The collection takes on a summer feel: lemon, mint or tomato, like a Mediterranean table, for the most iconic of sidecars. Fortunately, Ural hasn't gone all out for color. The machine can be fitted with an optional 'accessory receiver'. A kind of hitch that lets you add a cargo platform or bike rack. This accessory does not affect ground clearance.
The Ural Weekender Special Edition is based on the 2-wheel drive model. It gains a pair of fog lamps on the front of the basket, and benefits from a spare wheel but not its protective carrier.
"Maybe it'll be heavy if we put too much junk on a rear platform?" Don't worry; Ural has seen it all. Just don't be in a hurry: his old-fashioned twin-cylinder engine can only offer 41 horsepower, and certainly some surprises along the way. As for the machine, it weighs a little, but only a tenth of the weight of a T-34 tank. As with the tank, the gears turn in a 4-speed gearbox plus reverse.
With this Russian sidecar, it's easy to imagine a weekend on the Florida coast. In fact, this small production model is intended for North America only. Almost a kick in the pants to history. Time passes, the world changes, but USA / Harley and Russia / Ural seem faithful to their icons in representing their vision of motorcycling.
