The choice is made! You want an MT-07 and nothing else. Except that right now, at the dealership or in the MP sheets, there are two of them: the "phase 3.1" and the Pure. They look the same, have the same engine, and claim identical dynamic performance.... So what's the difference, and how do you choose?

Let' s keep it simple. The 700 Pure is an MT-07 version 3, the one just before, which was in the shops from 2020 to 2022. Except that it only comes in one color (not cheerful black); its screen is an LCD, whereas almost the whole Yamaha range has gone to color TFT; it can't take the optional Yam shifter; and it costs less.

That 's the beauty of the MT-07 Pure. A little less technology and fashion in exchange for a price 400 euros lower than its twin sister. The equivalent of a good helmet and a pair of gloves, it makes you think.

With this delta, it would be legitimate to think that the manufacturer has cut back a little on engine power or choice of tires. But no, both models develop 73.4 hp and 6.8 mkg, and are compatible with A2 clamping. The Michelin fitment is identical, as are the suspensions and the mahogany look, so only the choice of color and the MT-07's latest upgrades will tip the balance.

The MT-07 Pure becomes, in effect, a motorcycle that ignores the multitude of electronics that are everywhere. No traction control, Bluetooth, multiple riding modes, anti-wheeling or bad breath sensor. Just ABS, a fuel injection system and two rattling bowls. The tubular steel frame does its job well, keeping the weight down. The bike only takes on what's necessary, except for its 180 mm-wide rear tire. Cool for its looks, but far too big for its power. That doesn't stop it from being a queen of agility, with its pocket format and 184-kilogram weight.

bMW had presented a Pure too, as a more basic and less expensive version of its neo-retro NineT roadster, back in 2017. Yamaha is taking a similar approach, but with the aim of placing more pawns in the entry-level roadster market. The MT-07 has been a success since its inception, with its cool twin, ease of handling and predisposition to fun, despite its average suspension and ever-increasing price (an extra month's minimum wage in 10 years). This Pure is just the thing to take a break from inflation.

Maintenance

3/27/25
Manufacturer recall in the following countries: Germany.

As the corrosion inhibitor reacts with the worn material of the friction plate, a viscous substance can form under the effect of heat. The clutch may then fail to disengage (even when the lever is pulled), causing it to drag. The vehicle may start up unexpectedly with a gear engaged, even if the clutch is pulled, increasing the risk of injury.

French Alain81 Model 2023
Far too expensive (€7600) compared to the Hornet 2023 (€7800), which, for only €200 more, is far superior in every way (+ 5-year Honda warranty)!

It should have been priced at €7000 to compete with the Honda!
