another special series for the Yamaha FZ8. Called R Line, this model continues the tradition of the SP-R and Red Line. It features exactly the same equipment as the Red Line. Well, almost: the Lazer muffler is replaced by an Akrapovic. The FZ8 R also features an engine cowling, side protection pads, a radiator cover and a minimalist number-plate bracket. Alas, there's no sporty or shimmering decoration to emphasize the "special edition" aspect.
Does being the 5th best-selling bike in France in 2011 mean that you can be absolved of having a proper driving style? Criticized for its suspension (too soft from the outset), the FZ8 now has something to live up to its role as a sporty roadster. The rear shock absorber is by Öhlins, a guarantee of quality and more appreciable rigor. The fork remains original, though a set of springs with a little oil from Sweden would have rounded off the package nicely. The main criticism is that this is a limited series: all FZ8s should be equipped with damping worthy of generous riding. The extra cost is 600 euros, almost the price of the amorto; everything else is a bonus.

But in the segment below the FZ1, another successful model!
The FZ8's main raison d'être at the time was to compete with the Z750, but it never succeeded despite the latter's limitations, even though it was already at the end of its career.
It barely managed to compete with the GSR 750, which was also released a few months later in a bit of a disaster, and was just as mechanically efficient, but much less well finished! Nevertheless, the FZ8 remains a safe bet for second-hand bikes, offering good value for money in terms of performance and handling. Rating : 4/5 Respond to Jeff2A
