presentation of the XSR 700 Yard Built - Bunker Custom Motorcycles - 2016
Yamaha heads to Istanbul, Turkey, to collaborate with a new member of the Yard Built family, Bunker Custom Motorcycles. Brothers Can and Mert Uzer are no ordinary custom motorcycle builders. Can is a skateboarder extraordinaire, a member of the Vans Turkey skateboard team, while Mert began building motorcycles full-time after a career in digital advertising.
the duo attracted the attention and interest of Yamaha Motor Europe with this highly personal reinterpretation of the 1982 Yam SR 500. This streamlined, classic Yamaha custom stood out for its craftsmanship and rawness, but above all for its excellent rideability. Thus began the collaboration with Yard Built. Over the past few months, the two brothers have been hard at work adding the Bunker Custom touch to the Yamaha XSR 700, to end up with a rugged Tracker-style machine that looks ready to hit the beach, mountain roads and more.
"I'm very impressed with the work Can and Mert have done on this machine," comments Cristian Barelli, Marketing Coordinator at Yamaha Motor Europe."For me, what's very important is that they have retained the XSR 700's characteristics of agility and power, while adding their distinctive touch to show the XSR 700 in a whole new light."
"We opted for Tracker styling because we really wanted to capture the spirit of freedom of this machine as much as possible," confirm the Uzer brothers."The twin-cylinder engine is the ideal base, with its characteristic motorization, and the bike makes you want to create something light, agile and free."
to create their interpretation of Tracker styling for this Sport Heritage machine, Bunker Customs raised the seat and freed up more room at the front to give the rider greater freedom of movement. They also sought to increase ground clearance. To achieve this, they relocated the exhaust and replaced the original front wheel with a 19" all-terrain wheel.
to give the bike that special Bunker look, all body panels were replaced by hand-stamped 2 mm thick aluminum parts.these include the fuel tank covers, side panels, front and rear mudguards, radiator covers and seat pan. A CNC-milled aluminum structure supporting the fuel tank covers has also been sanded and polished to create a beautiful top view. The Renthal handlebars offer sufficient elevation to match the new riding position, and the seat has been raised by 6 cm to match. This was achieved using a bolt-on extension that can be fitted to any standard XSR 700 frame. The suede saddle adds a touch of elegance, while retaining its original locking mechanism.
To ensure comfort and convenience while retaining its looks on rough roads, the machine has swapped the classic fork for an MT-09 Tracer inverted fork. The standard rims have also been replaced by magnificent Super Ténéré spoked wheels, fitted with Goldentyre GT201 tires, 19 inches at the front and 17 inches at the rear.
an aftermarket 5.5" halogen headlamp was mounted on a custom bracket. on a custom bracket, complementing the custom front mudguards, both made from 8 mm tubular steel.
to emphasize the machine's off-road practicality, the overall ground clearance has been raised, fromthe overall ground clearance has been raised from 14 cm to 20 cm, and the muffler and exhaust manifold have been repositioned. The hand-built stainless-steel exhaust system incorporates an Akrapovi? catalytic converter where the muffler and 2-counter-1 meet.
bunker Customs has scattered several original Yamaha accessories over the machine, including billet clutch and brake levers, footrests and side stand posts. Finally, the icing on the cake is the bike's simple, understated yet beautiful 1980s-inspired graphics.
