presentation of the WR 250 F 2018
the WR 250 F boasts a number of new features, starting with its 4-stroke, double overhead camshaft, rear-tilted, liquid-cooled engine with 4 titanium valves. A new cylinder head design, with redesigned intake and exhaust ports, combined with a shorter intake cone, increases top speed. New camshafts and valve springs have been developed to further enhance low- and mid-range power.
The Yam enduro also features a new, lighter piston design with a flat crown, combined with a new piston pin. with a shorter pin and DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) coating to reduce friction and increase hardness.the lower part of the crankshaft features a nickel-chromolybdenum steel connecting rod to deliver balanced, predictable power and enhanced reliability. These modifications are accompanied by a redesigned ECU. A new 3D injection map optimizes engine power and perfects the overspeed limiter. For greater smoothness, the clutch actuator has been redesigned and, to save weight, the kick-start mechanism has been eliminated.
And it doesn't stop there. The same double-beam frame found on the YZ 250 F has been adapted to the WR 250 F to improve handling. Featuring a center beam that's 12 mm wider at its widest point, as well as new redesigned steel engine mounts and repositioned footpegs, the 2018 WR 250 F is an extremely robust and well-balanced machine. Its maneuverability combined with great stability enable it to tackle both technical sections and the fastest sections.
A fully adjustable KYB spring fork and KYB rear shock are chosen with optimum parameters to combine perfectly with the frame and engine character. For 2018, the WR 250 F gets new graphics, blue rims and an additional cover.
this follows a constant series of improvements, both minor and major. For example, in 2017, the WR 250 F changed only its front brake disc, increasing it to 270 mm. In 2015, Yamaha produced a completely redesigned WR 250 F: the first enduro bike to feature Yamaha's famous rear-tilted engine with inverted cylinder head.
developed from the 2014 YZ 250 F, winner of the AMA MX250 motocross championship, the WR 250 F has the potential to win the toughest competitions.
the engine of the WR 250 F is closely derived from the fuel-injected engine of the YZ 250 F, which has enjoyed such recent success. For the first time in the enduro world, the engine features a rearward-tilted cylinder with an inverted cylinder head. The airbox is located in front of the rider, and the fuel tank in the middle of the bike. This unique layout contributes to the centering of mass, a key factor in lively, agile handling.
the WR 250 F retains the same bore and stroke dimensions, compression ratio, cam profile, forged aluminum piston and case-hardened crankshaft as the YZ 250 F. Compared with the previous WR 250 F engine, the 2015 / 2017 version is considerably more powerful at high revs, and also offers a stronger feeling of power throughout the rev range.
in addition to its long 6-speed transmission, the WR 250 F is equipped with a special enduro clutch whose characteristics enable it to meet extreme demands.
made entirely of aluminum, the WR 250 F's double-beam frame is closely derived from that of the YZ 250 F.
one of the outstanding features of the YZ 250 F is its front suspension system. The separation of the air and oil chambers is the main reason behind the success of this high-tech inverted fork.
This idea of separate air and oil chambers reduces aeration and cavitation over bumps, offering more stable damping. This state-of-the-art system is used on the WR 250 F with specific settings for enduro use.
the WR 250 F benefits from the same rear shock absorber as the YZ 250 F. To meet the diverse requirements of enduro riding, the shock absorber length, spring rate and stroke have been optimized. Compared with the YZ 250 F, the WR-F has a 4 mm longer shock absorber, increasing rear travel by 10 mm.
