presentation of the 1670 MT-01 2006
what's the point of creating a concept bike? To surprise, shock, amaze, disturb, and often let the dream fade away in the painful awakening to the realities of production. For once, a manufacturer has dared to unleash one of these most virulent prototypes onto the street. Born in 1999, the surprising MT-01 is about to invade our streets. And what's most interesting, as well as incredible, is that the production machine is almost identical to the show bike. The road version will have a modified swingarm, inspired by that of the R1, different but still radial brake caliper mountings, a rear monoshock placed under the engine, but still the same crazy silhouette. Admire the sleek design, the impression of strength and bestiality, the compact size, the monstrous twin... A familiar mill that's already making people happy. This monumental block is none other than the 1670 from the Road Star Warrior. Air-cooled and dry-sump lubricated, it develops no less than 85 bhp and almost 14 mkg on the Warrior. On the MT-01, this V-twin benefits from a vitamin treatment. 90 horsepower come out of the crankshaft, but it's above all its torque that's going to tear up the asphalt: over 15 mkg at 3750 rpm. Unimpressive figures compared with recent big productions peaking at over 2 liters. But the Yamaha's twin-cylinder combines all the genres, and ultimately all the sensations. Rocketed, air-cooled, fuel-injected, multi-valve, EXUP-equipped and with long-stroke dimensions, this very big engine should rip your arms off and, frankly, awaken your senses. But don't expect it to replace the V-Max - that's for later. The MT-01 is the latest addition to Yamaha's roadster family, but with a particularly spicy sauce. A sort of Japanese Buell. The manufacturer has announced a chassis worthy of a supersport (ah, the Z 1000 is starting to freak out), unique emotions, hellish handling, and that's just the beginning to entice us. We'll be able to see it up close at the Munich Motor Show in September, and on the road in early 2005. The proto made quite a splash in the last century - its descendant is going to tear it up!
we now know a little more about the MT-01. Sound From the spec sheet, you'd be tempted to believe that Yamaha has designed a hypersport roadster with a power-cruiser heart. Moreover, for those who love power, 2 engine kits are available to boost the big twin to 96 or 110 hp (track use only). In use, it becomes clear that the MT-01 is not in this vein. It loves sport, but in its own way. It's not just another roadster, it's a new genre: the "roadster-custom-big-potato". We won't dwell on the machine's silhouette. Since September 2004 (or 1999 for those who saw the proto), you've had plenty of time to discover it. Sculpted around its monumental twin, the MT is an imposing machine.
It's eye-popping, well-finished, and brain-busting when you see a red zone on the magnificent speedometer at 5,500 rpm (even my 206 comes up short later...). And then you wonder: "over 15 mkg, OK, but the Kawa VN 2000 spits out 3 more, and what about the Triumph Rocket III? And what's more, if I want to enjoy riding a Naked, I've got the Z 1000 or the Ducat' S4R... Actually, no, what I like is when an engine lives, like on the 1700 Warrior!"
Well, there's plenty to choose from. How about combining them all? Here's Yam's brilliant idea: take a big pot, dip in some Rocket III, a ladleful of R1, back to the Road Star Warrior, sprinkle with Buell and season with Tuono. And here's a spicy dish of the day that's sure to make your jaw drop. With an R1 fork and a technically and visually sophisticated chassis, it should hold its ground.
born as a concept bike, the Yamaha MT-01 remains a bit of a concept once it hits the streets. It's a motorcycle that doesn't care about performance, that's only interested in offering maximum sensations, passionately and immediately. With its strong identity, big trunk and big pistons, this is a charming machine that forgets only one thing in its quest for pleasure: comfort.
*Kodo: traditional Japanese drum music, similar to an earthquake-like expression of latent power, produced by a bass drum so huge that its intense beat resonates in your heart and soul.

Nothing but happiness, contrary to what I've read everywhere, it's really my everyday bike, I do everything with it. Its reliability is ironclad, not to mention its sound, which is incomparable with any classic 4-cylinder, and its magnificent, timeless design. What's more, you rarely see it!
I used to change motorcycles all the time, but now I can't..
i can only recommend it... Rating : 5/5 Respond to Lekhed
On the other hand, you can't try out an MT01 for 30 minutes, you have to get into religion, and that takes a few days. Otherwise, l\'apriori is negative, it's a whole riding style that needs to change. I've seen people judge very quickly: it doesn't push like gnagnagna, it doesn't brake like pouet pouet, in short, comparisons that don't hold up because the mt01 doesn't compare, it marries, you enter into seduction, but it's not immediate. I know what I want, but this machine is a marvel in my eyes and my comfort

GOOD RIDING Rating : 5/5 Respond to GIANNIMAX
Over and above all that, the MT01 has reconciled me with the idea of pleasure without excessive speed. You get a kick out of it at low revs, and it's a change from all the other mixers that only give you sensations in the red zone
In short, a new generation of motorcycle to meet the new constraints of motorcyclists

But there are a few things I'd like to see improved
- handlebar height to improve riding position,+ 5
A proper loocker bubble
- a solution for the rear leg braces,( it still deserves to be ridden by two...)
- And a CARDAN!!!
I love it, but I won't take the plunge until I do! Rating : 5/5 Respond to Darkvadeho
when you put it back on its crutch (laughs)
bonne boure to all, even those who disagree with me. jaco Rating : 5/5 Respond to DJACK18
i own the caponord ...great machine, but normally in a few days i'll have the MT
i've tried it, for wind protection a givi bubble will do the trick. for two-up riding it's not as good as a standard routiere but it's not hell either...less than sportbikes in any case!don't pull on it hoping for the tuono's acceleration, but rather ride on the torque, and you'll appreciate it. as for the loock, it's a change from the traditional roaster....finally ...some like it, some don't...but above all, critics take the time to try it out, to talk about what they know! Rating : 5/5 Respond to gilou
I've got 8000km on my MT-01...and it's all been great! I had to change the standard tires (Metzeler Z4) because too bad by michelin pilot power.....and apart from that RAS!!!....je regret perhaps a little the lack of lengthening on motorway.....peutre ;-)....la MT-01, it is a motor bike passion: defects, qualities...but bcp of feelings!!! Hi everyone! Rating : 5/5 Respond to loloVLC
love it or hate it
my x1 was a joy, so with the mt it's the same
a whole trip already in slow motion
a different look
super torque
not the most sporty, powerful, etc
i don't care Rossi is untouchable anyway
and I've got nothing left to prove
so riding for pleasure
Nevertheless, a chain, yuck, long live the cardan shaft or belt
passenger footrest needs a makeover
ineffective mudguard (long live the mud flap) Unfortunately, the weather isn't always fine in Brittany
enjoy your rides Rating : 5/5 Respond to PAULO

It's part of a new line of motorcycles whose pleasure can no longer be enjoyed at 7,000 rpm with your head in the bubble
Its frame and handling have nothing in common with the V-MAX, which (with all due respect) is more of a "big soft sausage" than the FZX of the same generation (let's be honest, shall we?)
It's true that the V-MAX looks good, it's true that the V-MAX works well, but we'll have to think about moving on one day, won't we?
Far from the performance and endless length that many "4-banger" machines can offer, an MT-01 is all about feel, muscle and big sound, with an engine that looks like a mechanical cathedral
When I start it up in the garage, I already know it's going to be a great ride (especially when fitted with a Michelin Pilot), and when the schmidts are waiting for me around the corner, I give them a big watt, then cut out! What a life!
My fellow bikers, be careful on the roads and whatever your machine, keep smiling!
Best regards to all!

I'm a Bulldog owner (I can already hear the sarcasm from some quarters, but never mind) and after trying out the MT-01, I was initially very excited..
As the euphoria slowly subsided, I turned my attention to all those little things that can make life so much easier..
First of all, for the U or even the bolc-disc, bring a backpack..
Then there are all those plastic parts that, from a distance, look serious, and from up close, more like knick-knacks..
Then there's the Bulldog's weight at standstill, which admittedly comes as a bit of a surprise at first, but during my test of the MT-01, the weight was a handicap throughout the 90 minutes I spent riding the beast..
Sure, it's got power and phenomenal torque, but why choose a chain?
A cardan shaft would have been just as efficient and less costly to maintain..
Did Yamaha have a stock of chains to sell?
Owners are going to feel the pinch, especially if, like me, they do 20,000 to 25,000 km a year..
To sum up, I'd say: Good, but can do better! Rating : 5/5 Respond to Pasdbol
I had the opportunity to ride this monster solo, nothing to say about the torque and power, but the passenger is not comfortably seated, otherwise it is really a goodbe ..
Bonne route ;)) Rating : 5/5 Respond to Brik06
LA BELLE MT 01 and I can tell you that there's something underneath your ass; First contact, ignition, you settle in and already there it starts, and then there's this vibration that penetrates you from the slightest acceleration and I wanted to say that those who dispute my opinion would do better to try it rather than judge it go hello and good road to all bikers
