presentation of the YZF-R 125 2020

it's the end of childhood for the Yamaha YZF-R 125. In times of vocation come moments of snarl and envy, as if the genes of the most bleeding-edge sports bikes were flying off the vibrators to soak into the skin of this nymphet. It's been a number of years since sports wheels have been tipped into the crucible of competition, without sweetener. At Yam, a tactical milestone was reached when the R1 and R6 took on the M1. Envious, and even opportunistic, the little R-125 in turn opted for a more radical design, which went hand in hand with a clear evolution of the machine.

Although the market is collapsing, the war continues to rage on among sports cars. It's not like the little R to let the conflict slide. Its silhouette has become sharper and more assertive, as if its character had matured. As rebellious as ever, it hasn't yielded to the temptation to take on a MotoGP profile like its big sisters; instead, it's more inclined to show its sibling affection. Its fairing is fleetingly reminiscent of the previous-generation R6, while its face hesitates between that of an R6 or a current R1... or an RSV4. The stern has been redesigned with the same impulse. This YZF has fire in its eyes.

almost enough to make you think there's a big engine living in there. Except that this R is not designed to seduce young bikers, but to give them a taste for sport. As with all motorcycles in this category, the production of energy and impatience is entrusted to a single-cylinder 4. However, Yamaha wanted to introduce a new mechanic. With a Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) system unprecedented in the category, a new fuel injection system with a wider throttle body, a reduced combustion chamber and a new cylinder head with shorter, wider 4-valve cylinder heads, the engine gains in low-end torque and promises to be more powerful. All its goodwill, however, is limited to the statutory 15 horsepower.
But the R 125 is a firm believer. It is taking advantage of its transformation to overhaul its cooling system, acquire an anti-dribble assisted clutch, and rework its chassis to make it more efficient.

An R is a Deltabox frame where everything revolves around it. It doesn't change fundamentally, but takes advantage of the opportunity to revise its geometry for greater agility. The 41 mm inverted fork has been optimized, the rear tire is now 140 mm wide, and the rear brakes are fitted with new calipers and pads. Did you pay attention to the swingarm? Not too much.... It's not as noticeable as it used to be. On the one hand, the new, larger silencer hides a good part of it; on the other, it's a new element, shorter and with optimized rigidity thanks to the aluminum molding process.

Take a look around and judge the new LED headlamps, front and rear. Climb aboard, feel and touch. Look, the ergonomics have changed. The new half-handlebars are more open and horizontal, the saddles are thicker and the 11-liter fuel tank has been redesigned to make it easier to hold onto your knees when riding. Plus, it's easier to remove for maintenance.
Turn the key to bring it to life. First to the all-new dashboard before the mono hums. It will instantly make you forget the old instrumentation. While the latter was an elaborate gimmick, the new small LCD panel seems inspired by the essentials of performance. Complete, it features speed and rpm in bar graphs, keeps a good place for the fuel gauge, displays the gear engaged as well as the status of the VVA system, can change lighting and doesn't forget the clock.
The little finishing touch, unstoppable, attentive to detail, irresistible: the brake lever guard. It's the perfect complement to the upper fork crown, with its much more racing-style grooves. The paddock and the track are really not far away.

I was wondering if you are clairvoyant at motoplanete or if the 125cc v-max are just randomly put together? bikes that have not yet been released with no testing on your part but you already know their perfs. Anyway, I'm teasing you but your technical data sheets are very complete and that's something we can't take away from you ;) Rating : 5/5
