presentation of the FJR 1300 Ultimate Edition 2020
What an incredible journey the FJR has been on! 20 years of roads, evolutions, comfort and sportiness. The big GT seduced the public with its 4-cylinder engine, dynamic performance and imposing, dynamic looks.
Over the course of the 5th century , it has seen the GTR 1400, 1300 Pan-European, 1200 Trophy and other vessels take to its wheels. Faced with the BMW benchmark, they all gave up. The FJR is the only one to have resisted the BMW RT until the death knell sounded by Euro5. Yamaha says goodbye with this Ultimate Edition - a touch solemn and showing the accomplishment of this long-running motorcycle.
For this final series, the FJR 1300 plays the chic card. The black and gold color scheme further establishes its status as a grande dame. A deep evening gown, draped with a gold band on the tank and shoes covered in the same finish. This color reminds us of the R1-SP, itself an influence on the Tracer 847-R. That said, this two-tone combination always looks good.
The black finish continues on many of the parts on board: handlebars, risers, brake and clutch levers, fuel filler flap, upper fork crown, brake housings and passenger grips and footrests.
The Ultimate Edition is designed for AE and AS versions. In other words, it's already packed with equipment. A high, electrically adjustable windscreen and a pair of additional fairing deflectors to better protect boots and ankles from thermo-aerodynamic vagaries.
The AE version features electronic suspension, with a choice of 3 damping settings (Hard - Standard - Soft) and 4 crew configurations (Rider - Rider with luggage - Duo - Duo with luggage). Settings can be fine-tuned as required, by going a little further into the system.
The AS version comes with electronic suspension and a robotized gearbox. Don't compare it to a shifter; the latter cuts the ignition and doesn't touch the clutch. Here, the YCC-S 2.0 system manages the clutch when shifting gears (using the handlebars or selector), and can drop down on its own if the bike stops.

To conclude on a glamorous note, the last of the 1300 FJRs features overstitching and an embroidered logo on the saddle. Then it adds a touch of exclusivity with a badge on the fuel tank indicating its serial number. The Ultimate is numbered but not limited.
The FJR 1300 doesn't pass the baton, but concludes its career in style. When's the replacement? That's not really a question for this road-going baroness.
