presentation of the YS 125 2021
It's the end of the road for the Yamaha YS 125. And what a journey it's been! Discreet but always ready, this little 125 has extended the YBR's mission right up to the present day. A presence since 2005 is no mean feat. But from its predecessor, it has kept only its vocation. Riding with candor and discretion, that was the thing before.
This was no longer enough for the little Yamaha, which decided to mutate without changing its philosophy. A new name, a modernized design, a different kind of aplomb; and underneath it all, a vocation that's as much economical as it is urban. The YS 125's mission is to slip into everyday life, now with a more bubbly face.
The silhouette of the Yamaha YS 125 is clearly a generational change, from one end of the machine to the other. With a more feline face, protruding scoops, a more tapered bow, and a completely blacked-out engine and exhaust system, this bike has a welcome boost of dynamism. But without being provocative. That's what the MT is for.
A fresher, slimmer face doesn't completely satisfy the Yam. The engine has been extensively redesigned. With a bore reduced from 54 mm to 52.4 mm and a stroke increased from 54 mm to 57.9 mm, this block is no longer square but long-stroke, to boost torque. With its modest displacement, it can't claim to be violent, but torque has indeed improved, gaining 0.1 mkg. The YS is powered by 10.6 hp and 1.1 mkg.
Revised internal dimensions and more. The block houses a new cylinder head with a narrower valve angle and reinforced valves. Euro4-compliant, it can look forward to long hours of use in urban environments, especially as the fuel tank has been increased by one liter, for a total of 14. The advertised range is 300 km.
A double solution almost impossible to find today, starting can be done electrically or with the kick.

Since theYBR, the bike has gained a little weight. Three kilos. With 129 units on the scales, it's still within reasonable limits. Enough to get around town without a second thought. And in town, the YS decided that a more commanding riding position would be a good idea. The seat has therefore been raised to 795 mm (+15), for a more natural, comfortable seating position.
The chassis remains very simple, with a tubular steel frame, a graceful fork backed up by a pair of shock absorbers, a 245 mm front disc with piston bite, and a 130 mm rear drum. Braking is via Yamaha's integral UBS system. Simple solutions that keep the fare as dry as possible. The dashboard is designed to escape from this, with a touch of modernity. Gone are the double needle dials, replaced by more modern instrumentation with an analog tachometer backed up by a digital window.
With the YS 125, Yamaha renews the simplest urban solution with a touch of elegance. We've kept the basics and played on the evils of the city. Some would do well to learn from it.

Bikers' reviews Leave a review - 7 reviews
I've already been able to take the bike out on the fast lane, without ever feeling endangered by a machine that can't accelerate. On the other hand, the bike's light weight and narrow tires can give a feeling of instability, and the absence of ABS can be a problem for a novice rider: the brakes provide sufficient stopping power, but the absence of ABS won't prevent the roads from getting stuck.... Duo riding is indeed comfortable, even if it means a loss of performance! beware, however, if you want to buy this bike, spare parts are not readily available, and the choice of tires is limited to a few brands and is quite expensive... Changing the exhaust system will mean having to do a complete line-up, and there are no tank guards to match the model, nor a comfort saddle, unless you have them custom-made... It's a real camel, and a few drops of petrol are all it needs.
Light, maneuverable, with more than adequate lighting. It does the job, as they say! Rating : 4/5 Respond to Fra14
