presentation of the F 900 R Sport Edition 2024
The F 900 R has defended BMW's mid-size roadster stronghold since 2020. But its dynasty goes back much further. It's been 15 years since this machine (originally the F 800 R) offered a more modest alternative to the cosseted R 1200 / 1250 R, and more accessible than the nasty S 1000 R.
Fifteen years, several evolutions, 1400 units sold last year... This machine knows the terrain it's hunting in, and the competition is tough. So, why not dress it up in a revitalized outfit, with plenty of options to spice up everyday life? BMW France takes care of that, and the result is the F 900 R Sport Edition.
To catch the eye, it's provocative, with a color scheme strongly inspired by "M" - the famous letter synonymous with (big) performance. Starting with the "Triple Black" hue, the roadster gets a little more verve with a specific deco kit combined with "Sport" lettering, plus a little color on the rims, hoof and seat cowling. Thus adorned, the F 900 R seems to be swollen with testosterone, like the M 1000 R.
But it's nothing of the sort. No extra watts or optimized chassis to justify its name. Instead, the French branch has focused on equipment. The price increase is justified by the contents of the "Active" and "Comfort" packs. What's in them? Up&Down shifter, Pro riding modes (Dynamic and Dynamic Pro), heated grips, ABS Pro, Dynamic DTC traction control, MSR engine brake torque regulation, Endurance M chain and Keyless ride.

The model shown (pictured) expresses the melody of the twin via an SC Project "Conic Carbone" exhaust system. It doesn't come in either trim level; an 890-euro bill is required to hear its yelps.
All that's left to do is ride with style and a host of functions at your fingertips. After that, you'll find a pleasant, healthy motorcycle, with responsiveness and efficiency but a rather placid character. 105 horsepower are available, to tow 211 kg and a rigorous machine - less violent than its dress suggests.
The F 900 XR trail-sport cousin is also available in this special edition.
