presentation of the G 310 R 2019
The Stunt G 310 Concept announced it. A wave of orders followed. Take a good look at this little roadster. BMW's first modern foray into the sub-500 cm3 segment. It doesn't seem to frighten anyone, the design is successful but not ostentatious, the stature rewarding, the attitude strong and proud. But its potential is quite different, immense in a way that a Behemoth never was.
it doesn't have the versatility of a GS, nor the fury of an S 1000 RR, still less the touring ability of an RT... And yet, its conquering power is greater than these 3 references.
With its medium displacement, the blue-and-white crest on its fuel tank and its specifications calibrated for a global clientele, the G 310 R aims to please just about everywhere, but especially the world's biggest market: emerging countries and Asia. KTM has already begun this type of offensive with its 390 Duke, the direct competitor of this new Bavarian roadster.
both machines occupy the same segment, aiming to appeal to the same crowd. But they are very different. The Austrian looks playful, nervous, hectic; the German is classier, more serious, without being bourgeois. Even the engines are sisterly yet opposite. Each is powered by a single-cylinder, 4-stroke, fuel-injected engine. The G 310 R's engine has very specific characteristics. It's one of the few engines to slope backwards, and its cylinder head is turned around from its usual position. As a result, intake is from the front and exhaust from the rear. Only Yamaha's YZ cross-country machines had opted for such an arrangement.
The all-new 313 cm3 engine has a bore of 80 mm and a stroke of 62.1 mm. These dimensions suggest a desire to rev. With 34 hp and 3 mkg of torque, it performs well, but loses no less than 10 hp to the 390 Duke. It doesn't make up for it in weight. At 158.5 kilos, the BM is 10 units heavier. Its temperament will be different, however, as the Münich signature is more "refined" than that of Mattighofen.
the BMW G 310 R is manufactured in India by the colossal TVS Motor Company. Low cost, but not cheap. This roadster features a distinctive silhouette, 41 mm inverted forks, 4-piston Bybre front brake calipers (a sub-brand of Brembo) and ABS. The frame is tubular steel and the swingarm aluminum. The brand claims a top speed of 145 km/h and fuel consumption of just over 3 liters per 100 km.
in many fast-growing countries, a host of economical and practical medium-displacement users will be delighted by the arrival of such a machine. A roadster from a premium brand, with the look and feel of an S 1000 R, and at a price to match, is sure to whet the appetite. In our neck of the woods, the task will be tougher. On the one hand, it will have to contend with the 320 MT-03, CB 300 R and 390 Duke, and on the other, it will have to deal with a price tag that's in low orbit compared to that of machines at the heart of the market.

I was hesitating between a second-hand S1000R and another brand that was "standard" (neither good nor bad)
My choice is the other brand
BMW won't be seeing me in the workshop or at the dealership any time soon. Rating : 2/5 Participate in the conversation
It's fairly light: 160kgs in running order is good compared to its competitors (Ninja 300 is 174kgs, for example) except that... it's a mono, so it's 10kgs heavier than the KTM and... 10hp less powerful!
Really not enough peach for its category.
Otherwise, at dealerships, it's radio silence... The little one arrived in April, but none of the salespeople can give us any information about it... Of course, a 5000â'¬ BM probably doesn't interest them much... That's a shame. Rating : 2/5 Respond to KRS

To put it plainly, TVS has fallen way behind schedule and its release will finally be postponed until spring 2017. Rating : 5/5 Participate in the conversation
A 34hp lung for 160kg... when so many cars have a much lower power-to-weight ratio...
All that to roll and wind at 80km/h... agility far superior to many others, good comfort, roadholding and a good front axle... in short, sometimes it's better to refrain from commenting.. Rating : 5/5 Participate in the conversation
It will appeal to a wide range of users, whatever their age or experience... Rating : 5/5 Respond to Michaêl
