presentation of the Panigale V2 2025
It's an immutable and fascinating cycle that every sportswoman must complete: to be more efficient with each generation! More beautiful? Not necessarily. Lighter? Better, but not necessarily. What's important is that the stopwatch gets another slap in the face.
Exceptionally, this is not quite the case for the new Panigale V2. Ducati's defender of mid-size racing has changed its look, its engine, its scope.... and almost its vision of the sport.
Ducati, model school
The expression of Ducati's beautiful motorcycles could just as easily be dissected in art schools as in philosophy. This new painting is bound to fuel passions and debate. Modeled on the V4, the V2's design is admirably realized. Lively, taut, finely sensual, it even allows itself a lightness that fashion would have us forget. No winglets here! His face is all the more delicate. A finesse that continues right down to the belly, which couldn't bear big exhausts. These are relocated under the rear frame, in the manner of the raised mufflers used in racing.
Other distinctive V4 features include mirrors anchored to the forkhead, different fairing panels, a slimmer front mudguard and a fuller rear end - what it has lost in the belly, it has gained in the back.
From this delicate plastic, who would have thought that the physical and technical changes of this new V2 would generate a deflagration of an unknown level among enthusiasts of the red house?! Let's begin with the discovery of her body, and leave ourselves time to prepare for her heart.
Changes deeper than they appear
The chassis has undergone significant changes. The upside-down forks now come from Marzocchi (ciao Showa). An aluminum frame-shell is retained for the backbone and anchored to the new twin. The single-sided arm disappears, replaced by a new design element identical to that of the latest Panigale V4. It's not the same part, but it shares its low-pressure aluminum casting for a formidable combination of lightness, precision and traction. The wheelbase increases slightly, the rims lose a kilo and the rear tire increases in width from 180 to 190.
Ducati retains the shock absorber's lateral positioning, with a new streamlined design conditioned by all the new elements around it. It loses its rocker system. Of course, the suspensions are adjustable from all sides.
Brembo takes care of braking, as always, but even more seriously: the new Panigale abandons its M4.32 calipers for the more efficient M50.
A surprising engine
Before sticking the pen where it hurts, let's introduce the new V2 engine with an official statement: "the new Panigale V2 is superior in braking, corner entry, cornering and traction - except in a straight line".
A little more ointment, with an overall weight reduction of 17 kilos - that's huge, but we have our doubts; rough calculations would indicate more like 10 kilos, which is already excellent.
This 890 cm3 twin weighs just 54.4 kg, 9.5 less than the 955 Superquadro, making it the lightest twin produced by the brand. It proudly boasts IVT variable valve timing, remains discreet about the abandonment of the desmodromic system, and shows off its CV with 120 horsepower to boot.
120 hp........? 35 less than the old model! Between that and the abandonment of desmo, a good part of our readers have just gone into syncopation. We'll try to calm the fire with the torque curve, generous with 70% of power from 3,000 rpm; with valve clearance control every 30,000 rpm; with the IVT system, which makes power smooth and sustained, while torque is very linear.... Oops, maybe that's not for everyone. Do the Bolognese remember the famous "Ducati kick in the ass"? Ducati"?

an A2 version will also be available. Bad dream or dubious joke? How can you inflict 47.5 horsepower on such a racy machine!?!! And how's the owner going to keep his wallet from burning up with a crazy insurance premium!?!!
While we're on the subject, the mill can produce 6 extra horsepower with the Termignoni exhaust system as an accessory. It also saves 5 Nm and 4.5 kilos, in exchange for a month's (big) salary.
For the first time, a Ducati Superbike is less powerful than the model it replaces. Not by much? The factory claims that the bike is only 2 tenths of a second slower than the previous Panigale V2... on the Vallelunga circuit. A track where technique and agility are more important than power. But on a track with good straights, the argument crumbles as quickly as the speed.
A quick comparison to show that Ducati has recalibrated to the Japanese level: this Panigale V2 sends out as much horsepower and torque as the new Yamaha R9, with only 5 kg difference. Putting mkgs to one side, it boasts the same power and weight as a 2005 R6.
On the other hand, the arrival of this block will bring greater flexibility and a much more pleasant ride on open roads. This is clearly where the Panigale V2 is heading. A sure sign of this: the halfguidelines are now above the fork crown.
More electronics

At Bologna, electronic assistance is introduced with almost every new bike. The new Panigale V2 gets a larger color TFT screen, with three display themes (Road - Road Pro - Track) in a 5-inch 16:9 diagonal.
An additional riding mode, Rain, joins Race, Sport and Road. The shifter is upgraded to the second generation, as on the latest Panigale V4.
After that, the rider will find traction control, ABS and engine braking control, all linked to the inertial unit to take account of the angle.
Panigale V2: Ducati Superbike or road-going Supersport?
Let's take a step back. Let's look at a subcutaneous industrial logic. This new-generation Panigale V2 appears to us as a synergy between the previous generation and the 950 SuperSport (which will disappear). The aim is to create a sportbike that's less radical, more usable and less expensive to manufacture, given that the engine will be shared with many other models - whereas the Superquadro could only be used in a single case. Standardization killed it as much as standards.
This streamlining is reflected in the sale price, which has plummeted by 4,000 euros. Wow! This is no longer the symbolic "Dark" discount. Again, this is the first time Ducati has slashed prices.
Unless you consider that this bike is a reinterpretation of the SuperSport, with a more racy design, a ladleful of extra power and a little inflation to boot. In that case, everything seems to fit together nicely.

an S version offers you superior equipment: Öhlins suspension (manually adjustable), Li-Ion battery, pit lane speed limiter, standing start assistant, 3 kilos less, and passenger seat as an accessory.

driving modes :
- Race : dedicated to track driving, with high-grip asphalt. By selecting Race, the driver can count on 120 hp, with direct Ride by Wire response to throttle opening. Race mode offers low-intrusion electronic intervention, without however diminishing safety levels, with ABS at level 2 without lift control and activation of the "slide by brake" function, the controlled sliding during braking that allows the bike to be safely on its side as it enters a curve.
- Sport : the rider can count on 120 hp with a sporty Ride by Wire response to acceleration. The electronic controls are tuned to perfectly assist the rider when riding on dry roads. Rear wheel lift control during braking is engaged, and the ABS Cornering function is set for maximum cornering performance.
- Road : recommended for use on low-grip surfaces. The electronics provide the rider with 120hp of power with a progressive Ride by Wire response, as in Sport Mode. The default level of electronic control is set for maximum safety, guaranteeing the best possible grip and stability.
- Rain : dedicated to slippery surfaces, for example in the rain. In Low Power mode, the default setting, Ride-by-wire response is particularly smooth, and the DTC, DWC, ABS and EBC engine braking systems intervene even more progressively. Maximum power is limited to 95 hp.
Of course, the rider can customize the Driving Modes parameters and then restore the default settings.
